Job DescriptionJob Description

Cloud Architect
Austin, TX | On-site | 6+ month contract

This is a hands-on, big-picture Cloud Architect role for someone who enjoys shaping direction and getting into the details. You’ll be the person helping modernize how the organization thinks about cloud — from architecture and migration strategy to security, performance, and what’s coming next with AI and advanced analytics.

You won’t just be designing diagrams that sit on a shelf. You’ll work closely with technical teams and business leaders to move real systems into the cloud, make them more scalable and secure, and help everyone understand why the architecture matters. If you like connecting strategy to execution and explaining complex ideas in plain English, this role will feel right.

You’ll evaluate existing environments, decide what belongs in the cloud (and how), guide migrations end-to-end, and help teams adopt best practices across AWS and GCP. There’s also a strong forward-looking element here — helping leadership think through AI, machine learning, and generative AI use cases and how cloud services can support them responsibly and efficiently.

What you’ll be doing day to day (in human terms)
You’ll design cloud application and infrastructure architectures that are secure, resilient, and built to scale. You’ll assess current systems, create practical migration plans, and stay involved through execution to ensure things actually work as intended. You’ll partner with security, development, and business teams to translate goals into technical solutions, monitor performance, and continuously improve how cloud services are used.

You’ll also act as a guide and mentor — helping teams understand cloud patterns, tradeoffs, and emerging technologies, especially around AI/ML platforms and services across AWS and Google Cloud.

Must-haves

  • 10+ years architecting enterprise solutions across on-prem and cloud environments

  • 8+ years designing solutions in AWS and/or GCP

  • Strong experience with cloud- architectures using IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS

  • Proven background designing scalable, secure cloud application and infrastructure architectures

  • Experience across AI / ML / deep learning solution lifecycles using AWS or Google technologies

  • Ability to lead cloud strategy conversations with both technical and business stakeholders

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong understanding of networking concepts (VPCs/VNETs, VPNs, DNS, load balancers, firewalls)

  • Cloud security, IAM, encryption, and compliance frameworks (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.)

  • CI/CD pipelines, containers, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation)

  • Scripting or development experience (Python, Java, C#, automation tools)

  • Experience optimizing cloud cost without sacrificing performance

  • Hands-on exposure to AWS services like SageMaker, Bedrock, Redshift, EMR, Kinesis, or Google Vertex AI

  • Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, or Google)

If you enjoy being the calm, confident voice in the room when cloud decisions get complex — and you like turning modern technology into something teams can actually use — this role gives you room to do exactly that.
