Role Description
As a member of the pharmacy leadership team, this manager is responsible for supervising and developing the activities of the pharmacists and staff assigned to patient care roles and to maintain a clinical specialty practice. The manager will also serve as the Program Director (RPD) for the hospital's ASHP-accredited pharmacy program, overseeing all aspects of the program to ensure compliance with accreditation standards.
Requirements:
- Doctor of Pharmacy Degree with completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY-1 +/- completion of PGY-2 in Pharmacy Administration and pharmacy leadership experience.
- Minimum of 3 years post- experience in a hospital pharmacy with supervisory experience.
Essential Functions:
- Provides clinical leadership and supervision of the Clinical Pharmacy Specialists (CPS) including scheduling, monitoring staffing needs and assuring appropriate staffing levels are maintained
- Maintains skills as a clinical pharmacy practitioner.
- Maintains a clinical practice
- Assists in the planning, design, implementation of clinical pharmacy initiatives and demonstration of the value of pharmacy services
- Assists of the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of pharmacy department policies and procedures related to clinical practice and evaluation staff compliance with the same
- Maintains relationships with nursing, medical staff, and program leadership to achieve pharmacy department, hospital, or health-system goals
- Provides leadership for appropriate medication use for all areas of responsibility and monitors medication use in clinical specialty practice area(s)
- Participates in or provides leadership in continuous quality improvement activities, medication safety processes, committees, and medication policy activities in the pharmacy department, aligned patient care departments, and the health system
- Collaborates with staff members to achieve clinical team, pharmacy department, hospital, and health-system goals
- Provides leadership for staff development projects (design, implementation, measuring impact)
- Maintains responsibility for performance evaluations of CPS team and collaboration of same for pharmacists
- Recruits and assists in hiring new employees of the CPS team and department
- Provides on-call support for the pharmacy department and clinical practice area
- Participates in didactic and experiential student and education
- Takes responsibility for personal and professional growth
- Maintains familiarity with all departmental and clinical hospital programs • Ensures compliance with all regulatory practice standards
- Works as an integral part of the pharmacy leadership team
- Directs and oversees the PGY1 Pharmacy Program in accordance with ASHP standards
- Directs and revises the program structure, goals, objectives, and preceptor development plans as needed
- Serves as the primary point of contact for ASHP and ensure ongoing accreditation compliance
- Recruits, mentors, and evaluates pharmacy
- Coordinates learning experiences with preceptors and hospital departments
- Fosters a culture of learning and professional growth within the pharmacy team
