General Description:

Under the direct supervision of a laboratory technologist, the team Lead, or the supervisor in the cytogenetics and FISH department, the scientist technician will perform responsibilities associated with processing specimens for clinical testing, either manual or automated techniques, and will provide general support for the laboratory, following established policies and procedures.

This is the entry level for the Laboratory Technician job category. The technician works in a learning capacity while performing a range of assignments under close supervision.

  1. Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of professional medical technology/clinical laboratory science principles, practices, and concepts

Knowledge of laboratory quality control procedures and principles of performance improvement.

Knowledge of laboratory equipment and ability to maintain.

Ability to communicate, consult, and interact with other members of the team.

  1. Functions:

The technician rotates under supervision in any of the above-mentioned work assignments. Additionally, work off-hour shifts, weekends, based on department/company needs. The duties and responsibilities of the associates include but are not limited to the following:

Performs a broad range of laboratory procedures, including receiving, processing, and testing of clinical specimens accurately in the clinical Cytogenetics laboratory.

Demonstrate the ability to identify, evaluate, and solve problems, or elevate the license personnel appropriately.

Reports problems concerning individual tasks, equipment, and supplies to the Laboratory Supervisor or the Lead Technologist to ensure timely resolution.

Maintains and documents the optimal functioning of laboratory equipment.

Performs and documents quality control activities.

Adheres to practices and regulations governing biosafety and biosecurity in the workplace.

Maintain the laboratory in a clean, functional state, as well as cleaning or performing / scheduling equipment and instrument maintenance as required.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment and maintain production and quality standards.

Ability to work in a biohazard environment and comply with safety policies and standards outlined in the Safety Manual.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Organizes work and sets priorities to meet deadlines.

  1. Supervisory Controls:

CorePath clinical laboratory scientist or supervisor outlines assignment parameters, deadlines, and priorities and provides advice on how to proceed when unusual problems are encountered.

The technician plans and carries out the procedures necessary to complete the work assignment and handles problems and corrects errors in accordance with established protocols or accepted laboratory practices.

The supervisor or technologist reviews the work reports for the technical soundness and conformity to policy and established requirements.

  1. Qualifications:

AS or BS in biological science or related science and qualified under CLIA guidelines for high complexity testing under supervision

  1. Customer Service:

Meets the needs of customers while supporting CorePath missions. Communicates and treats customers in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.

  1. Patient Care:

Considers patient care when performing diagnostic testing as it related to functional capacity/limitations, ability to understand and follow directions, provide objective self-assessment of past medical condition and treatment appropriate to the overall treatment goals and plans.

The hours for the position are Tuesday-Saturday, 9 AM-6 PM. Note that Saturday hours are required for this position.
