About the Opportunity
I’m recruiting for a Civil Technician to join a growing civil engineering consultancy in Wakefield. They specialise in development infrastructure, highways, drainage, and earthworks design across residential, commercial and industrial sectors.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on design work, solving technical challenges, and seeing projects progress from concept through to completion. If you want to grow your career in a supportive team that invests in your development, this could be a perfect fit.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll play an important role in delivering civil engineering designs at all project stages, including:
Producing detailed designs for highways, drainage networks, external works, levels and earthworks.
Developing 3D ground models, cut/fill analysis and site-wide infrastructure layouts.
Using software such as Civil 3D, PDS, Flow/Infodrainage (or similar) to prepare engineering drawings, calculations and digital models.
Supporting senior engineers in preparing design reports, technical notes and planning submissions.
Collaborating closely with structural, geotechnical and planning colleagues to deliver coordinated design outputs.
Ensuring designs meet current standards (DMRB, SuDS, LPA requirements, NHBC guidance, etc).
Contributing to site appraisals, feasibility work and pre-application support where required.
Attending occasional site visits, inspections and design meetings.
Playing an active part in driving quality, accuracy and best practice within the team.
What We’re Looking For
To succeed in this role, you’ll ideally have:
5+ years’ experience in civil engineering or development infrastructure.
Strong capability in ground modelling, levels design and earthworks assessment.
Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and either PDS Flow / Infodrainage (or equivalent software).
Experience preparing drawings, calculations and civils details to a high standard.
Good written and verbal communication skills, and confidence working with colleagues and clients.
A minimum of Level 4 BTEC HNC in Civil Engineering (or higher qualification).
A proactive, solution-focused approach with good attention to detail.
Engineers working toward EngTech or IEng status will also be encouraged and supported.
Why Apply?
This role gives you the chance to:
Work on a wide variety of development and infrastructure projects in the region.
Join a close-knit and experienced team who will help you progress.
Continue building your software and design skills in a supportive environment.
Develop toward Engineer or Senior Technician level with ongoing mentoring.
Be part of a company that values quality, collaboration and genuine engineering thinking.
