Civil Site Engineer - Section Head

Position: Site Civil Engineer – Practice Leader Location: Charleston, SC Relocation Assistance: Not available Visa Sponsorship: Eligible Local Candidates Only Position Summary We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Site Civil Engineer to lead and expand our civil site practice in the Charleston, SC office. This is a strategic leadership role ideal for someone with a strong background in business development, project management, and team leadership. The successful candidate will drive the growth of our regional civil group, shape its strategic direction, and serve as a visible leader in the Lowcountry market. This role combines market-facing responsibilities with hands-on project leadership, staff mentorship, and operational excellence. You'll be expected to deliver high-quality site development solutions across public and private sectors while elevating our regional presence. Key Responsibilities Strategic & Business Development Collaborate with office and practice leadership to align with the firm’s growth strategy Lead business development initiatives and build strong client relationships Develop and pursue new project opportunities in the Charleston and Lowcountry region Lead proposal development and project pursuit efforts Project Execution & Oversight Oversee design, permitting, and delivery of site civil projects across sectors Serve as technical advisor to project managers and engineering staff Ensure adherence to budgets, schedules, quality standards, and client expectations Team Management & Leadership Lead and grow a high-performing civil team by recruiting, mentoring, and training staff Conduct performance reviews, set individual goals, and provide regular feedback Allocate staffing resources to meet project needs and profitability goals Foster a collaborative, high-integrity team culture focused on excellence Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an accredited institution Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain equivalent licensure 10+ years of progressive experience in site civil engineering, including commercial, industrial, and municipal projects Proven success in project management and business development Strong working knowledge of permitting processes, site design, stormwater management, grading, and utilities Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and design coordination tools Attributes Existing professional network in the Charleston/Lowcountry area Demonstrated leadership in growing a practice or team Experience with team budgeting, forecasting, and resource planning Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
