Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Transportation Engineering, a Transportation Project Engineer will assist in tasks including plan preparation, quantity calculations, geometric design, pavement marking/signing, drainage design, traffic studies, traffic signal design, public involvement, report writing, specifications, cost estimates, roadway lighting, and related tasks. Candidates with backgrounds in preliminary engineering or detailed plans and specifications development are recommended. Activities may include:
Analyzing information and data for routine design tasks.
Following instructions from Project Managers or Senior Engineers regarding expected results.
Researching design options and documenting findings.
Ensuring accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness, and conformance to budgets, schedules, and standards.
Researching code requirements.
Preparing environmental impact and administrative reports for permits.
Keeping the Project Manager informed of workload, schedule, scope changes, or additional services.
Maintaining professional knowledge through workshops, publications, networking, and societies.
Assisting in project proposals and business development.
Participating in non-design activities such as construction inspection, materials testing, surveying, CADD production, and field data collection.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field, emphasizing highway design, traffic, and transportation engineering.
Professional Engineer (PE) Licensure for Illinois required.
Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills.
Minimum of 3+ years of responsible experience in transportation engineering or similar.
Familiarity with ISTHA/IDOT policies, roadway design, plan preparation, and construction engineering.
Experience with MicroStation design software.
Experience with Geopak SS4/3D modeling, cross sections, and SUDA is a plus.
Valid driver's license for travel to project sites and fieldwork.
Pay, Perks, & Benefits:
Salary ranging from $85,000 to $110,000, based on experience.
