Undergraduate Research Assistant - Sustainable, Healthy, and Resilient Buildings Lab:

The Sustainable, Healthy, and Resilient Buildings lab is looking to recruit Undergraduate Research Assistant students, starting in Fall term and continuing to Winter, Spring, and possibly

Summer terms. Start date is flexible with at least one academic year to work in this position.

About Sustainable, Healthy, and Resilient Buildings Lab:

This lab is established and led by Dr. Parichehr Salimifard at Oregon State University College of Engineering. The mission of this lab is to improve the health and well-being of the public by making the environments in which people spend the

majority of their lifetime healthier, more sustainable, and also resilient. The Sustainable Healthy, and Resilient Buildings research projects have crossovers to fluid dynamics, aerosol science, energy efficiency, sustainability, and environmental health.

Indoor Air Quality:

One of the core research areas of our lab is indoor environmental quality, particularly control, and mitigation of building occupants' exposure to contaminants and allergen and virus-carrier particles indoors. We have conducted research on aerosols dynamics and sensing; more specifically on particle transport, deposition, resuspension, aerosol sensing, and size characterization. The most recent and emergent contributions of these research projects are in airborne infectious disease and wildfire smoke exposure mitigation and control.

Position Duties

The research assistant will:

• Work in the lab and/or field research activities to help with various tasks including but not limited to equipment setup, data collection, and analysis, and lab maintenance.

Work in a semi-open environment subject to colder temperatures during the winter, warm and humid conditions in the summer. May require sitting or standing for longer periods of time.

Drive OSU Motor Pool vehicles to pick up/drop off materials, tools and models from other facilities and stores, as needed.

Travel in state and out of state for assisting with field research projects, as needed.

Other duties assigned by the faculty supervisor.

• Specific tasks and work schedule vary based on the lab and project needs.

There may be work that is required outside of normal hours for sample collection.
