A Chief Engineer oversees mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, life‐safety systems, manages the engineering team, controls maintenance budgets, and ensures the hotel remains safe, operational, and guest‐ready at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineering Leadership — Direct, schedule, train, and evaluate maintenance staff.
- Preventive Maintenance — Develop and oversee PM programs for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, elevators, pools, and life‐safety systems.
- Guest Service Support — Prioritize and respond to guest room and public‐area maintenance requests promptly.
- Regulatory Compliance — Ensure compliance with building codes, OSHA, fire safety, and brand standards; coordinate with inspectors.
- Documentation & Records — Maintain equipment logs, as‐built drawings, warranties, and maintenance files.
- Safety & Emergency Preparedness — Conduct fire drills, maintain life‐safety systems, and implement staff safety protocols.
- Facility Appearance — Ensure interior/exterior upkeep, including landscaping, painting, lighting, and pool maintenance.
- Develop and oversee the preventive maintenance for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, elevators, pools, and other hotel systems
- Respond to and prioritize maintenance requests from guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces
- Manage contractor relationships for specialized work — elevators, fire suppression, chillers, laundry equipment — and oversee their on-property work
Qualifications & Skills
- Technical Education — Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, facilities management, or equivalent trade background.
- Experience — Typically 5–10 years in engineering leadership role.
- Licensing — 1st Class Stationary License is required.
- Skills — Strong mechanical/electrical knowledge, leadership, budgeting, problem‐solving, and ability to work on‐call is required
- Full Service - Full Service hotel experience is required.
