Position Overview: We are looking for a skilled and proactive Chief Engineer to oversee all maintenance and engineering operations for our brand-new 20-room boutique hotel with a pool. As the sole maintenance lead, you will be hands-on in ensuring the property operates at peak condition, from guest rooms and common areas to mechanical systems and pool facilities. This role is ideal for a self-starter who thrives in a small-team environment and takes pride in keeping everything running smoothly and safely.

Key Responsibilities:

Property Maintenance

  • Perform daily inspections and preventative maintenance on guest rooms, public areas, pool, and back-of-house spaces.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Keep pool facilities clean, safe, and compliant with health codes, including chemical balancing.
  • Respond promptly to guest maintenance requests with professionalism and minimal disruption.

Operational Oversight

  • Develop and maintain a preventative maintenance program for the property.
  • Coordinate and oversee work performed by outside contractors and vendors.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, including service logs and compliance documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, fire, and building codes.

Team & Guest Interaction

  • Work closely with the hotel team to minimize downtime and maintain a seamless guest experience.
  • Communicate clearly with management about property needs, budget considerations, and repair timelines.
  • Occasionally assist other departments during high-demand periods.

Administrative

  • Manage maintenance budget, ordering supplies, and sourcing cost-effective repair solutions.
  • Track warranties and service schedules for all major equipment and systems.
  • Participate in safety training and emergency preparedness planning.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in hotel or facility maintenance (multi-skilled across electrical, plumbing, and HVAC ). Pool operation and maintenance experience required; CPO certification a plus. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Good communication skills and a guest-first mindset.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various weather conditions. Flexibility to work on-call for emergencies, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Exert physical effort in lifting/transporting at least 25 pounds.
  • Push/pull carts and other equipment up to 100 pounds.
  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, listening, and hearing ability and visual acuity.
  • Work environment-all areas of the hotel, surf park, and restaurant. This job involves working under variable temperature conditions and noise levels, in indoor and outdoor settings.
  • Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for lengthy periods of time.

Responsible for knowing and abiding by all departments, Commonwealth Lodging Management, and hotel policies and procedures. As well as all brand standards, policies, and procedures.
