Chief Engineer

The Chief Engineer is responsible for supervising hotel maintenance operations, hotel assets, conference space, and restaurant to include refrigeration, heating, plumbing and maintaining top quality standards as required.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Provide professional and courteous guest service at all times

- Supervise maintenance operations for the facility to include, but not limited to: refrigeration, heating, plumbing, water softeners and treatment, A/C units, ice machines, swimming pools/spa, lighting, kitchen equipment, emergency equipment/systems, switch rooms, roof exhausts, electrical substations, painting, wall covering repairs, etc.

- Adhere to all Brand standards

- Monitor gas, electric and water consumption on monthly basis and reports issues to the General Manager

- Ensure all projects are completed according to specifications and on time

- Collaborate with department managers to coordinate work to be done

- Possess comprehensive knowledge of guest room electronic locks

- Responsible for telephone system, high speed internet, movies and cable/streaming

- Aid and instruct craftsmen scheduling work, materials and project completion

- Obtain bids and contracts for landscaping and snow removal

- Develop and maintain preventive maintenance program for guestrooms, public space and all equipment

- Conduct inventory, purchasing and maintains department checkbook

- Develop department budget and assists with CAPEX budgets

- Maintain cleanliness of grounds and attractiveness of landscaping

- Ensure cleanliness and orderliness of workspaces and storage areas

- Provide training for new Maintenance Associates

- Conduct monthly department meetings and attends team meetings

- Staff and respond in a timely manner seven day/week, 24 hour coverage, including on-call status

- Available for on-call and weekend work as required

- Ensure building and staff are prepared for annual brand inspections, as well as city and state inspections

- Maintain current status of all permits (elevator, boiler, fire extinguishers, suppression system, etc.)

- Maintain CPO. ServSafe, OSHA and other certifications

- Actively prepares properties for brand audits (BSA)

- Oversee pool maintenance

- Ability to work well with a diverse group of people


Additional Duties

- Complete projects as determined by General Manager

- Act as Manager on Duty as needed

- Actively seeks out other tasks when current work is complete

- Participate in ongoing education and training

- Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

- Education or Experience- Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; Two to four years engineering experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and related experience.

- Valid Driver’s License – Must be able to travel to and from property and vendor sites. Must have a valid NH driver’s license and a favorable driving record to operate company vehicle.

- Skills- Must have developed skills to the point to be able to: read, analyze and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and technical procedures. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, coworkers and guests.

- Mathematical Skills- Requires mathematical development sufficient to be able to: calculate figures, discounts, interest, area and circumference. Compute ratio, proportion and percentages. Calculate surface, volumes, weight and measures. Possesses sharp ability for attention to detail (able to quickly identify variances in standards), working efficiently and flexibly. Ability to multi-task and be highly organized while working under pressure.

- Reasoning Ability- Must have developed reasoning skills to be able to: apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


Physical Requirements

- Non-slip shoes are recommended

- Ability to pass pre-employment drug test, physical and/or lift test, background check and driver record check

- Possession of valid Driver’s license

- Complete online safety training and use required safety gear as provided by the Company

- Requires walking and standing to a significant degree, reaching, handling, climbing (ladder), kneeling, crouching, stooping, talking, hearing and seeing

- Lifting up to 75 lbs. maximum with infrequent lifting and/or carrying or transporting of objects weighing up to 50 lbs

- Outside environmental conditions such as wind, rain, cold, snow, extreme heat, etc.

- Inside environmental conditions protected from weather conditions. Exposure to extremes of exterior temperature changes and noise:

* Temperature Changes: Variations in temperature, which are sufficiently high or low to cause marked bodily discomfort including exterior cold, heat, humid and wet conditions

* Noise: Sufficient noise such as music, either constant or intermittent, to cause marked distraction or possible injury to the sense of hearing if endured day after day
