Chemical Process Engineer in Houston

We are seeking experienced Process / Project Engineers to support regional industrial gas facilities across Texas and Louisiana. This role focuses on process improvement, capital projects, alarm management, maintenance, reliability, and Process Safety Management (PSM) while supporting Air Liquide's automation and remote operations initiatives.
This position is based in Houston, TX and requires up to 50% travel to various operating facilities.
Travel Requirements
Travel up to 50% to support facilities including:
- Bay City LMA
- Ingleside ASUs
- Bayport SMR
- La Porte SMR
- Port Allen LMA
- Nederland ASU
- Bayport ASUs
- St. James LMA
- Geismar ASUs
- Other Air Separation Unit (ASU) and Steam Methane Reformer (SMR) facilities as needed
Key Responsibilities
Project Engineering
- Lead and manage small- to medium-sized capital improvement projects.
- Develop project scopes through the Management of Change (MOC) process.
- Manage contractors throughout project execution.
- Monitor project schedules, budgets, equipment procurement, and startup activities.
- Coordinate Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, and plant startups.
- Provide regular project updates to leadership and stakeholders.
Alarm Management
- Review and evaluate process alarms against company standards.
- Conduct site audits with technical experts.
- Verify critical alarm configuration within DCS and notification systems.
- Support alarm integration into remote monitoring platforms.
Maintenance & Reliability
- Support regional maintenance and reliability teams with system improvements.
- Update preventive maintenance job plans within CMMS.
- Assist with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) action items and reliability improvements.
Process Safety Management (PSM)
- Lead Management of Change (MOC) activities from initiation through completion.
- Track and close safety audit findings and corrective actions.
- Support compliance with Process Safety Management requirements.
Operating Excellence
- Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions.
- Support operational excellence initiatives and remote operations strategies.
- Participate in continuous process improvement projects.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
- Relevant industry experience may be considered in lieu of an engineering degree.
Experience
- 1–3+ years of experience in:

- Industrial manufacturing or chemical processing
Experience in one or more of the following industries is highly :

- Steam Methane Reformers (SMRs)
- Oil & Gas

- Petrochemical Processing
Required Skills
- Ability to read and interpret Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Experience with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and troubleshooting process issues.
- Knowledge of Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and HAZOP methodologies.
- Familiarity with Management of Change (MOC) processes.
- Strong project management and contractor coordination skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced industrial environment.
- Self-motivated with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
