Job Summary
- Controls equipment systems that process chemical substances into specified products.
- Operate a variety of process equipment, including but not limited to; reaction systems, filters, storage tanks, reactors, pumps, process logic control systems (PLC), chillers, compressors and pressure vessels in compliance with prescribed operating procedures.
- Move control settings to make necessary adjustments on equipment units affecting speeds of chemical reactions, quality, or yields as directed by supervisor and written procedures.
- Monitor and record reactions, noting changes in chemical and physical properties and compositional changes of substances.
- Control or operate chemical processes or systems of machines, using panelboards, control boards, or semi-automatic equipment.
- Record operating data, such as process conditions, test results, or instrument readings.
- Confer with technical and supervisory personnel to report or resolve conditions affecting safety, efficiency, or product quality.
- Draw samples of products and conduct quality control tests to monitor processing and to ensure that standards are met.
- Regulate or shut down equipment during emergency situations, as directed by supervisory personnel.
- Start pumps to wash and rinse reactor vessels, to exhaust gases or vapors, to regulate the flow of raw materials, steam, air, or nitrogen to reactors, or to add products to converter or blending vessels.
- Load and unload raw materials, intermediates, and finished products into and out of process equipment.
- Patrol work areas to ensure that solutions in tanks or troughs are not in danger of overflowing.
- Notify maintenance, stationary-engineering or other auxiliary personnel to correct equipment malfunctions or to adjust power, steam, water, or air supplies.
- Inspect and maintain operating units, such as scrubbers, storage tanks, pressure vessels, centrifuges, or driers to ensure that all are functioning and to maintain maximum efficiency.
- Turn valves to regulate flow of products or byproducts through agitator tanks, storage tanks, or pressure vessels and reactors.
- Calculate material requirements or yields according to formulas.
- Assists in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), processing, and quality enhancements.
Essential Job Functions
The position has a lifting requirement of up to 50 lbs. Must have adequate eyesight in order to inspect and describe reactions. The ability to wear a respirator while performing certain job functions is essential Ascent and descend ladders and navigate mezzanine safely.
Educational and Skills Requirements
- Must pass pre-employment screen, including drug screen, and background check.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to drive forklift.
- Must have high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Experience in chemical manufacturing facility or other industrial plant experience is .
- Must be willing to work 8 hours and 12 hour rotating shift including night shift.
