Job DescriptionJob Description Own Your Craft at Ingersoll Rand

You start your shift by reviewing weld prep instructions and verifying materials. You’ll cut plate with a plasma-arc unit, prep fit-ups, and form centrifugal blades on a hydraulic press—dialing in the dies until they meet design specs. Your welded assemblies are positioned, cleaned, and ground by you, then stress-relieved in the furnace. You’ll run certification samples to Roots specifications, keep your brazing certifications current, and verify component quality—impellers included—using liquid and dry Magnaflux and liquid penetrant. Throughout the day, you’ll move parts safely using a pendant or radio-controlled crane, forklift, or transporter, and you’ll wrap up with a spotless work area.

  • Perform GTAW/TIG, GMAW/MIG, SMAW/Stick, brazing, flame hardening, torch heating, and cutting for production and repair work.

  • Carry out fitting and weld-prep operations; operate a hydraulic press to form centrifugal blades and adjust/modify forming dies to meet design requirements.
  • Position, grind, and clean your own weldments; load/unload and operate a stress-relieving furnace.
  • Verify acceptability of production components and repair work up to final inspection using liquid and dry Magnaflux equipment and liquid penetrant.
  • Prepare Babbitt in an electric pot and pour Babbitt pounders.
  • Operate plasma-arc hand cutters and a plasma-arc shape cutter to create parts from plate or other materials.
  • Follow Roots welding procedures, including proper identification via metal stamp or process-sheet signoff for certified welds.
  • Safely operate gas or battery-powered forklifts, battery-powered transporters, and pendant/radio-controlled cranes; choose proper rigging; charge batteries and exchange propane tanks.
  • Observe all plant rules and safe work practices; complete incidental duties as needed; keep your area clean and organized.
