Job DescriptionJob DescriptionThe Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) is a quasi-independent government authority created to reform the process of funding capital improvement projects in the Commonwealth’s public schools. The MSBA strives to work with local communities to create affordable, sustainable, and energy efficient schools across Massachusetts.
The Data Team works across the agency and within the Capital Planning department to improve accessibility to data, collect data, and provide sound analysis for use by MSBA staff and leadership in decision making, policy development, stakeholder engagement, operations, and long-term capital planning.
We are pleased to offer a Capital Planning Data Assistant (Co-op) position for the Spring Semester. This role provides students with the opportunity to apply classroom learning to real-world challenges in public administration, construction, and capital planning for educational facilities.

As the Data Team Co-op, you can expect to experience:

  • Real-world impact: You will contribute to projects that shape the future of public school facilities in Massachusetts.
  • Skill Building: You will work with a qualified team to develop your expertise in data analysis, visualization, and applied research in policy administration, public funding, and construction.
  • Cross-disciplinary exposure: You will collaborate with MSBA staff, and external partners, working with architects, construction project managers, UX designers, IT professionals, education professionals, and more.
  • Public policy development: Through work on your projects and interaction with MSBA leadership, you will gain insight into how decisions are made at the intersection of data, design, and policy.
  • Compensation: The position is a paid, full-time opportunity for up to 6 months.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting MSBA project managers and architects with data-driven analysis and reporting.
  • Assisting in the development of tools and databases that track project costs, timelines, and capital planning initiatives.
  • Preparing reports, dashboards, and presentations to inform leadership and stakeholders.
  • Assisting with information gathering to support ongoing projects and policy initiatives.
  • Supporting consultants in the development of the MSBA Data Master Plan by gathering and organizing information from MSBA staff and to inform the consultant team’s work.

Who should apply:

  • Students currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in data, analytics, public policy analysis, urban and regional planning, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with Tableau, Excel, PowerBI, Word, and PowerPoint (or willingness to learn).
  • Highly motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • GPA of 3.2 or higher .

Details:

  • Paid, full-time, six-month co-op position (Starting in January 2026).
  • Location: Boston, MA (hybrid schedule with required in-office days 2-3 days per week).
