Something About the Position

JS Robinson Fine Homes is seeking an experienced, customer-facing, Construction Cost Accountant to manage all financial aspects of our high end residential construction projects, ensuring accurate accounting, cost containment, managing and tracking variance purchase and change orders, and compliance.  Our successful candidate will prepare and monitor budgets, analyze project costs, and provide financial reporting. Key responsibilities include managing project budgets, tracking expenses, conducting cost analyses, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards.  It would be helpful if this individual could also assist with portions of the construction start-up phase including bid work and estimating to create a budget ready for banking submission and permitting.

 

What You Can Expect In This Position

  • Budgeting and Cost Management:
    • Prepare and monitor project budgets including materials, labor, and subcontractor costs. 
    • Analyze project costs and variances. 
    • Track and report on project cost progress and variance identification. 
  • Financial Reporting:
    • Prepare financial statements and reports in real time for residential construction projects. 
    • Generate reports for project leadership and management. 
  • Cost Analysis and Control:
    • Conduct cost analysis and provide recommendations for cost-saving measures without reducing quality of project. 
    • Identify potential cost overruns and develop mitigation strategies. 
    • Monitor project cash flow. 
  • Compliance and Auditing:
    • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations in the construction industry. 
    • Assist and/or run project audits. 
  • Supplier and Vendor Management:
    • Review and manage supplier and vendor contracts. 
    • Ensure accurate payment and timely invoicing. 
    • Estimate potential project costs prior to securing bids for work.

 

Skills You Need to Bring With You

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is not required, but strongly .
  • 5 or more years in accounting in the residential construction industry is required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – this position will interact with our most valuable assets – our clients and our co-workers.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and financial systems.
  • A high level of technology proficiency and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of construction-specific accounting principles and regulations.
