CAD Manager

Core Responsibilities

  • Oversee CAD platform integration across disciplines for consistency, accuracy, and compatibility in designs and deliverables.
  • Lead the creation and adoption of CAD standards and best practices across all disciplines.
  • Maintain and update CAD software, tools, and technologies to ensure efficient operation and alignment with industry advancements.
  • Understand client CAD requirements and develop configuration files accordingly for company-wide implementation.
  • Foster cross-disciplinary collaboration to ensure seamless data exchange and clear communication of design intent.
  • Leverage CAD tools for benchmarking, concept design, prototype development, simulation, and testing.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain SOPs for CAD-related activities to streamline processes and boost productivity.
  • Ensure consistency in CAD standards while allowing flexibility for project-specific needs.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop CAD performance metrics, monitor and report upon agreed metrics
  • Identify opportunities to expand CAD usage within the firm to improve workflows and enhance capabilities.
  • Stay current with CAD industry trends and advancements to keep the firm competitive and innovative.
  • Lead and oversee the CAD Committee, driving initiatives to standardize workflows, improve efficiency, and implement best practices across the organization.
  • Coordinate with engineers, designers, project managers, discipline leaders, and CAD users to ensure stakeholder satisfaction with projects.
  • Ensure that CAD outputs meet or exceed quality standards and meet client expectations.
  • Effectively manage multiple job priorities, ensuring deadlines and project requirements are met.
  • Mentor CAD users, providing guidance, training, and professional development opportunities.
  • Develop and implement baseline assessments to evaluate CAD user proficiency, supporting skill development, and providing a clear framework for promotions and career advancement.
  • Create and deliver training programs on CAD best practices, software updates, and process changes for all disciplines.
  • Work closely with IT to provide input on CAD software, tools, and licensing updates and needs.
  • Partner with IT on design automation through scripting, macros, and APIs.
  • Provide ongoing technical support for CAD-related issues, troubleshooting, and problem resolution.
  • Ensure all personal timecards are completed accurately and submitted on time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • This position is generally non-billable, with non-billable activities including company and team meetings, professional development, community involvement, innovation time, culture and engagement activities, learning, and training.

Skills & Experience

  • Associate's degree in drafting or equivalent experience within the AEC industry.
  • Demonstrated experience ensuring project/department milestones/goals are met, adhering to approved budgets.
  • 7-10 years of prior experience as a CAD drafter, designer, or technician as an individual contributor
  • 5 years of prior experience working within an AEC firm is required.
  • Strong working knowledge of CAD software, including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, OpenRoads, or similar platforms.
  • Proficiency in CAD design, modeling, and drafting techniques for AEC projects.
  • Familiarity with data management systems (ProjectWise), GIS software, and design coordination tools.
  • Understanding of API integration, data management, and cybersecurity.
  • Experience with CAD standardization and quality control procedures.
  • Critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work well as a team with demonstrated successful team leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated success working with multiple stakeholders, managing competing priorities, and successfully completing projects on time and within budget.
  • Valid driver's license and automobile insurance.

Physical Requirements

  • Required to stand, walk, and sit.
  • The position may require a visit to project sites occasionally.
  • The position requires a normal range of hearing.
  • The employee must be able to lift 20 lbs. occasionally.
  • Requires prolonged sitting with 15% of the time spent bending and reaching.
  • Must have sufficient manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
  • Noise levels are consistent with a standard office environment.
