Building Systems Field Engineer

A nationally recognized consulting engineering firm is seeking an experienced Field Service Representative to support the construction administration of complex building systems, including mechanical/HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection (MEP/FP). Based at the firm’s Johnstown, PA headquarters, this service-focused role ensures that building systems are installed and operate according to design intent, specifications, and client expectations.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in field work, mechanical systems, and construction administration with the ability to oversee and troubleshoot building performance during and after construction.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead and facilitate construction meetings involving contractors, subcontractors, engineers, architects, and building owners throughout all project phases

Review and verify HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and building automation system installations for compliance with design documents and performance requirements

Identify system deficiencies, energy conservation opportunities, and optimization strategies

Monitor construction progress and advise on project readiness, testing procedures, and system commissioning

Validate that installed systems align with client expectations, design standards, and building codes

Conduct thorough site visits, document field observations, and prepare detailed construction reports and schedules

Review construction drawings and specifications for quality, accuracy, and adherence to codes

Communicate findings and recommend corrective actions to resolve design or installation issues
Qualifications:

Associate degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical Engineering, or Construction Management (or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience)

Minimum 5 years’ experience in construction, installation, or maintenance of building systems (HVAC, controls, fire protection, plumbing)

Strong knowledge of building systems performance and construction best practices

Capable of managing multiple concurrent projects and prioritizing field responsibilities

Proficient in documenting site conditions, deficiencies, and progress in a professional format
