Roles and responsibilities
The Resident Engineer will leadAECOM’s construction supervision projects and act as theclient’s main point of contact advising on allengineering matters.
JobDuties
- Leads thedelivery (time, cost, quality) of assignedpackage.
- Supervise and manage the contractorsto ensure the works are constructed as per specification and toestablished milestone dates.
- Manage and directthe supervision team to undertake day to day inspections of theworks.
- Maintain a very high level of Safetyawareness and ensure the contractor complies with hisobligations.
- Resolves site issues onsite.
- Presents progress and package issues toclient team.
- Negotiates changes to the scope ofwork with the Client and keysubcontractors.
- Responsible for following up oninstructions & commitments associated with theproject
- Establishes Project Execution Plan,Health & Safety Plan, Quality Control Plan and otherdocuments
- Establishes the program requirementsfor all areas of the project and monitors site staffperformance
- Plans, directs, supervises andcontrols the execution of all technical, fiscal and administrativefunctions of the project and the siteteam
- Assigns responsibility to key subordinatesin their respective fields ofexpertise
- Provides input to performance reviewsand develop plans for subordinates
- Establishesinternal weekly meetings to review project status and formulateaction items
- Performs other responsibilitiesassociated with this position as may beappropriate
- Represent the company in all Clientmeetings.
- Perform various engineering works andproject/construction management for the project in Roadsconstruction relevant.
- Review and checkingtechnical deliverables
- Review constructionprogramme, specifications and costestimates
Qualifications
- BachelorDegree in relevant Engineering field (i.e. Civil,etc.)
- Engineering charter ship will beadvantageous
- Abu Dhabi Authorities’understanding will be advantageous
Experience
- Aminimum 20 year's post graduate experience in the design,site supervision of the projects with a broad infrastructureengineering background.
- UAE experiencerequired, especially in Dubai

1. TechnicalExpertise
- BuildingSystems Knowledge: Proficient understanding ofmechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC (heating, ventilation, andair conditioning), and fire safety systems. Ability totroubleshoot, repair, and maintain thesesystems.
- EnergyManagement: Expertise in energy-efficient systemsand strategies, including energy audits, HVAC optimization,lighting controls, and the integration of renewable energysolutions.
- Building AutomationSystems (BAS): Familiarity with smart buildingtechnologies, automated control systems, and sensors that monitorand optimize energy use, lighting, heating, andcooling.
- PreventativeMaintenance: Knowledge of preventative maintenancetechniques for building systems to extend the life of equipment andminimize downtime.
2.Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP)Systems
- HVACSystems: Expertise in managing HVAC systems,including knowledge of air quality, temperature control, andenergy-efficientsolutions.
- ElectricalSystems: Ability to handle electrical wiring,lighting systems, and power distribution while ensuring safeoperation and compliance with electricalcodes.
- Plumbing and WasteSystems: Understanding of plumbing systems,including water distribution, drainage, and waste systems. Abilityto maintain and troubleshoot plumbingequipment.
- Fire SafetySystems: Knowledge of fire alarm systems,sprinklers, and other fire safety equipment to ensure compliancewith building codes and safetystandards.
3. BuildingOperations andMaintenance
- FacilityManagement: Overseeing the daily operations andmaintenance of building systems and facilities. This includesmanaging work orders, coordinating contractors, and ensuring timelyrepairs and services.
- ScheduledInspections: Conducting routine inspections ofbuilding systems, equipment, and facilities to identify issues,monitor performance, and ensure properoperation.
- Problem-Solving:Troubleshooting building issues, such as equipment failure,temperature control issues, electrical malfunctions, and plumbingproblems, and finding effectivesolutions.
- Health and SafetyCompliance: Ensuring that the building complies withhealth, safety, and environmental regulations. This includes firesafety, air quality standards, and waste managementregulations.
4. ProjectManagement
- ProjectCoordination: Managing small-to-medium-scaleprojects, such as building upgrades, retrofits, and repairs.Coordinating with contractors, vendors, and building occupants toensure projects are completed on time and withinbudget.
- BudgetManagement: Tracking maintenance costs, controllingoperational budgets, and ensuring cost-effective buildingmanagement practices.
- BuildingRenovations and Upgrades: Coordinating witharchitects and contractors to manage the renovation, modification,or upgrade of building systems andinfrastructure.
- VendorManagement: Engaging and managing third-partyvendors for specialized services, such as elevator maintenance,landscaping, or pest control, ensuring contracts are upheld andwork is done according tostandards.
5.Regulatory Knowledge andCompliance
- BuildingCodes and Standards: Familiarity with local, state,and federal building codes and regulations, including safety,accessibility, and environmentalstandards.
- Health and SafetyRegulations: Knowledge of OSHA (Occupational Safetyand Health Administration) standards and other workplace safetyrequirements to ensure the health and safety of buildingoccupants.
- EnvironmentalSustainability: Experience with sustainable buildingpractices, including waste management, energy efficiency, waterconservation, and renewable energyintegration.
6.Communication andCollaboration
- TeamCollaboration: Working with a team of engineers,maintenance staff, and contractors to ensure smooth buildingoperations and address issueseffectively.
- StakeholderCommunication: Liaising with building owners,tenants, and management to communicate maintenance schedules,building issues, and improvementplans.
- Documentation:Maintaining accurate records of inspections, repairs, maintenanceactivities, and equipment performance. This can involve usingbuilding management software or computerized maintenance managementsystems(CMMS).
- Reporting:Providing regular reports on building operations, equipment status,and maintenance activities to management or buildingowners.
