Position Summary: Oversee and provide for the maintenance, repair, and safety of the Lord of Life facilities and grounds.

Department: Resources

Reports to: Resources Executive Director

Supervises: Custodial and Grounds Staff, and Garden Supervisor

Status: Full-time

FLSA: Exempt

Hours Worked Per Week: 40

Essential Functions:

  • Supervise, provide schedules, and mentor custodial staff, grounds staff, and the garden supervisor. Provide guidance, training, and support.
  • Work closely with other departments to coordinate maintenance activities and address facility needs.
  • Perform routine and extensive maintenance and repairs procedures on mechanical equipment and utility systems.
  • Respond to the needs of the building and grounds; this includes but is not limited to plumbing, electrical, general upkeep, woodwork, and painting.
  • Perform preventative maintenance procedures on building mechanical equipment on a scheduled basis: belts, fluids, filters, grease, seals. Repair and replace broken parts.
  • Maintain and service boilers, HVAC systems, security system, and telephone system.
  • Repair electrical equipment and control circuits.
  • Manage and support the mowing, snowplowing, and landscaping aspects of grounds.


Principal Functions:

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and compliance with regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain maintenance reports and scheduling for the fire protection systems, alarms and sprinkler system, fire door, back flow prevention, fire hydrants, elevator, kitchen hood system and all safety systems.
  • Work with the Resources Executive Director in managing all maintenance related and capital improvement plans.
  • Support Memorial Peace Garden staff by attending to columbarium niches when needed and addressing landscaping needs.
  • Assist with the renovation and remodeling of the building while overseeing the contractors when needed.
  • Respond to after-hours and weekend emergencies as needed. Provide back-up for custodial staff as needed.

Experience/Knowledge:

  • High school degree or equivalent. Technical education or certifications .
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems.
  • Proficient in maintenance management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Sedentary work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible

amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects,

including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are

sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary

criteria are met.

Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of

force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg control requires exertion of

forces greater than that of sedentary work and if the worker sits most of the time, the job

is considered light work.

X Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20

pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Heavy work - Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds

of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Environmental/Working Conditions:

  • Position will require attention in all areas of the facility and grounds.
  • Office and workshop space are provided.

  • Large machines, such as but not limited to Bobcats and lawn mowers
