Job Title: Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET)
Location: Lancaster, PA
Duration: Temp to Perm only
Job Summary:
Responsible for the maintenance, repair, calibration, and modification of patient care medical devices (excluding diagnostic imaging systems). Ensures equipment functionality, safety, and compliance with applicable standards and manufacturer recommendations. Provides technical support and training to clinical personnel and other BMETs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain, repair, calibrate, and modify patient care medical devices.
- Perform quality assurance inspections following codes, standards, and manufacturer guidelines.
- Execute preventive maintenance programs as recommended by vendors.
- Maintain cost-effective inventory of replacement parts and materials.
- Keep accurate service and calibration documentation in compliance with regulations.
- Assist in training clinical staff on equipment operation and basic maintenance.
- Recommend use of outside service vendors when needed.
- Provide technical training to other BMETs on patient care devices.
- Participate in service and training seminars to enhance skills and reduce post-warranty costs.
- Support equipment planning, pre-purchase evaluations, acceptance inspections, relocations, and installation of new equipment.
- Participate in departmental meetings and special projects as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
- Associate of Science degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 3 years servicing patient care medical devices in a hospital setting.
Experience:
- 3 years servicing anesthesia and surgical devices in a hospital setting.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong technical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read technical manuals, journals, and legal/financial documents.
- Proficient in written and verbal communication.
- Knowledge of algebra, geometry, ratios, and unit conversions.
- Ability to use multimeters, oscilloscopes, analyzers, patient simulators, ventilators, anesthesia units, infusion pumps, and other medical devices.
- Experience with equipment diagnostics software, databases, and standard office applications.
- Strong attention to detail, concentration, and ability to learn new procedures quickly.
- Ability to work under stress, adapt to changing tasks, and maintain precision.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent sitting, walking, standing, climbing, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, stooping, and end-range motion.
- Ability to lift > 100 lbs occasionally, > 20 lbs frequently.
- Keen vision (with or without correction) for inspection and differentiation.
- Auditory ability to respond to voices, alarms, monitors, telephones, and pagers.
