Battery Cells Materials Engineer

Stellantis has crafted a bold strategic plan that paves the way to achieve carbon net zero by 2038. To deliver this objective the introduction of advanced technologies in Powertrain (like new energy storage materials), Electric and Electronics devices (like embedded electronics as well as electrical motors) involves more and more the knowledge on raw materials as key skill in the product development. In Global Purchasing and Supply Chain team (GPSC), the Materials and Technical Expertise group (MTE) is in charge to deal with raw materials technologies to secure them. The candidate will be involved in activities concerning the evaluation encompassing characterization, selection and validation of raw materials like precursors’ materials for energy storage cells (li-ion). In particular:Characterization of precursors (chemically and physically) used for manufacturing of Cathode (CAM) and Anode (AAM) materials used in Li-ion cells including NMC (e.g. Nickel Sulphate, Li Hydroxide...), LFP and forthcoming technologies.Management of quality of materials through the analysis of transformation steps for manufacturing of CAM and AAM: co-precipitation, layer deposition and vapor depositionQualification of re-used and re-cycled raw materials for advanced CAM, AAM, ELECTROLYTES, SEPARATORS and their impact on product performancesCapability of analysis of technical specs and data sheets of RM for the development of suitable CAM, AAM and Electrolytes by direct interface with suppliersModelling and Simulation of materials in terms of crystal lattices and main precursorsMandatory background in chemistry of solid state / crystallinity of metals (Nickel, Cobalt, Lithium) / physics of solid matter The candidate enables the management of the activities related to the raw materials in collaboration with suppliers and internal STELLANTIS teams (Purchasing, Sustainability, Circular Economy, Business intelligence, Product development) Technical Skills required for the position include but are not limited to: Expertise’s Materials Science focusing on Physical & Chemical validation of raw materials for elect materials like Nickel, Cobalt, Manganese, Graphite, Lithium, Organic material & recycled raw materialsModelling of the behaviors of the raw materials in electrodes: salts and chemical/physical linksKnowledge in manufacturing and transformation processes of precursors that allow the optimization of RM in final components: CAM AAM and separatorRaw Materials characterization     Physical validation of Raw material as microscopy (SEM, FIB, HRSEM, AFM, STM)Chemical validation of Raw material as IPC, XRFLaboratory evaluation of charge/discharge profiles (SOC, C-rate)Critical Skills required for the position include but are not limited to: Characterization and qualification (chemical physical analysis) for precursors and final functional materialsManagement of quality of material through knowledge of manufacturing technologies for precursor materials, enable the manufacturing of CAM, AAMModelling and Simulation of materials in terms of crystal lattices (Li salts…)Established network in the supply chain for precursor production and transformation
