Job Overview
The BAS Field Technician III plays a key role in the installation, startup, programming, and commissioning of complex building automation systems. This position is a senior-level field role responsible for ensuring systems operate as designed, mentoring junior technicians, and providing technical expertise in the field.
As a BAS Field Tech III, you’ll work directly with project teams, customers, and commissioning agents to deliver efficient, reliable, and well-integrated control systems — keeping projects on schedule and aligned with MJEC’s commitment to quality and performance.
Responsibilities
- Lead field installation, wiring, programming, and startup of building automation systems (HVAC controls, lighting, and integration projects).
- Configure and test system components including controllers, sensors, actuators, and networked devices.
- Commission systems, perform point-to-point checkout, and verify sequences of operation.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues and ensure corrective actions are documented and implemented.
- Mentor and train BAS Field Tech I and II team members, promoting safety, efficiency, and technical growth.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and customers to clarify design intent and resolve field challenges.
- Review submittals, drawings, and specifications to ensure proper installation and operation of all control systems.
- Complete detailed documentation, redlines, and daily progress reports.
- Support warranty calls, service projects, and ongoing system optimization.
- Adhere to all MJEC safety policies and ensure compliance with local codes and standards.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in building automation, HVAC controls, or related technical field.
- Strong knowledge of DDC (Direct Digital Controls), networking, and HVAC system operation.
- Experience with Siemens, Johnson Controls, Trane, Distech, or similar BAS platforms .
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and control diagrams.
- Proficiency with control system programming and commissioning tools.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in various environments, including confined spaces, attics, crawlspaces, and at heights.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods.
Work Environment
- This is a field-based position requiring travel to commercial, institutional, or and industrial buildings.
- Work hours may vary based on project schedules and may include evenings, weekends, and overtime.
