BAS Construction Technician

Job Summary

This role involves programming, initiating startup procedures, and commissioning commercial HVAC control systems, while also integrating them seamlessly. Additionally, the position entails the development of front-end solutions for building automation systems, ensuring efficient and effective operations.

 

Essential Job Tasks

  • Proficiently program various control brands including Tridium, Distech, and Siemens.
  • Apply prescribed sequences of operations to “block and wire” programs effectively.
  • Engineer Niagara AX / Niagara 4 stations with precision.
  • Conduct startup and commissioning activities for controllers, seamlessly integrating them into Niagara AX / 4 Stations.
  • Thoroughly verify the functionality of sensors and actuators, promptly addressing any arising issues.
  • Design and develop graphical user interfaces tailored to project specifications and company standards.
  • Provide comprehensive owner / customer training and ongoing support.
  • Collaborate with external trades, such as balancers, mechanical, electrical, and commissioning agents.
  • Coordinate internally across departments, ensuring smooth workflow and necessary preparations.
  • Assess the quality of installations throughout various stages, maintaining high standards of performance.
  • Provide remote assistance to customers, resolving inquiries and issues effectively.
  • Update field documentation with detailed comments for Project Managers, facilitating accurate “as-built” records.
  • Facilitate the return of laminated field documents to job sites post-update.
  • Review onsite equipment documents to ensure tasks accuracy.
  • Manage and maintain an up-to-date database of software releases, spanning from old to newly released versions.


Job Context

The job primarily entails on-site work at either customer locations or within the company office. Travel to customer sites is a regular component of the role, often necessitating adaptation to varying weather conditions. Additionally, the environmental conditions within buildings can fluctuate, requiring versatility and adaptability in the work environment.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

Qualifications

  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in the controls field, or an equivalent combination of vocational training and relevant work experience.
  • Tridium AX or N4 Certification is recommended, or prior experience with Direct Digital Controls (DDC), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), or similar ladder-logic and block programming systems.
  • Must be available and able to travel to multiple job sites as assigned, adhere to varying work schedules, including extended hours when necessary, and comply with client-specific safety standards.
  • Travel may be required, typically without overnight stays.

 

Knowledge

  • Understanding of HVAC equipment sequence of operations and the ability to comprehend sequence intent in various applications.
  • Interpretation of project drawings and specifications.
  • Familiarity with problem-solving techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of deductive inductive reasoning.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
