AWS Cloud Engineering Lead in Hackney

Job Description

At Connect2Hackney, the internal talent team for Hackney Council, we are looking for a Lead Cloud Engineer to join our ICT & Workplace Services division. This is a pivotal role within our Finance & Corporate Resources directorate, where you will lead the evolution of a multi-cloud environment (AWS and Google) that is already recognised as a benchmark for maturity in the public sector.

The Role

As the Lead Cloud Engineer, you will have overall responsibility for the design, delivery, and optimisation of our self-service cloud infrastructure. You won't just be maintaining systems; you will be driving a culture of technical excellence and shared knowledge.

Key Responsibilities:

• \nStrategic Leadership: Work alongside enterprise architects to set the target architecture and ensure all implementations meet Hackney's rigorous security and sustainability standards.\n

\n

• \nMulti-Cloud Evolution: Continued development and maintenance of our AWS and Google platforms, focusing on automation to improve efficiency.\n

\n

• \nTeam Growth: Manage a team of Senior Cloud Engineers, providing mentorship to junior peers and fostering a high-performance, inclusive environment.\n

\n

• \nSolution Design: Take accountability for large, complex cloud-based service solutions, balancing functional needs with non-functional requirements.\n

\n

• \nCollaboration: Act as a bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders, from the Mayor's office to third-party suppliers, ensuring cloud strategy aligns with the needs of Hackney's .\n

What We Are Looking For

\n

We need an expert who can operate at SFIA Level 6 (Initiate and Influence), showing deep expertise in their field and a clear understanding of its impact on the wider organisation.

\n

Your Experience & Skills:

\n

\n
• \nEducation & Certification: Ideally educated to degree level, with an AWS Solutions Architect or Google Professional Cloud Architect certification (or equivalent experience).\n

\n

• \nTechnical Mastery: Deep knowledge of cloud engineering, software development, systems integration, and security operations.\n

\n

• \nOperational Excellence: Experience leading the migration of traditional IT services to the cloud and managing automated CI/CD pipelines.\n

\n

• \nGovernance: Ability to participate in Technical Design Authorities and Cyber Security governance groups to enforce robust cloud policies.\n

\n
