Controls Technician
A manufacturing company in Waukegan, IL is looking for a hands-on Controls Technician with proven, testable experience in PLC programming, troubleshooting industrial automation systems, and working with 480V 3-phase electrical systems. This is not a desk job—we need a boots-on-the-ground technician who can navigate production floors, diagnose problems in real time, and deliver practical automation solutions.
Responsibilities of the Controls Technician

Maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance automation and control systems to ensure optimal performance of production and packaging lines.

Program, configure, and modify Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMIs; ensure seamless system integration with machinery and plant infrastructure.

Diagnose electrical and control system failures using schematics, manuals, and software tools.

Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and production teams to resolve technical issues and implement automation improvements.

Understand and safely work with 480V 3-phase power systems and industrial motor controls.

Execute and improve preventive maintenance procedures for all automation and instrumentation systems.

Document all activities, including system modifications, repairs, calibrations, and performance reviews.
Requirements of the Controls Technician

5+ years of direct experience in an automation or controls role within a manufacturing environment.

Proven expertise in Allen-Bradley PLC programming (Ladder Logic), troubleshooting, and controls integration.

Strong knowledge of automation systems, HMIs, VFDs, sensors, actuators, and instrumentation.

Hands-on experience working with 480V 3-phase electrical systems and control panels.

Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and technical documentation.

Experience supporting high-speed packaging lines and continuous production systems.

Familiar with preventive maintenance systems, including use of CMMS.
1st shift, DIRECT HIRE
Pay is $40.00 - $45.00 an hour, based on experience
