Automation Engineer | DeWitt, MI

Salary Range: $83,000 - $128,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement automation solutions for manufacturing processes.
  • Program and configure Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs), and robotic systems.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve issues with existing automated equipment and control systems.
  • Collaborate with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to optimize operational efficiency and reliability.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including schematics, programming logic, and operational procedures.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance automation system performance and reduce downtime.
  • Ensure all automation systems comply with safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Automation Engineering.
  • Strong proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell) and HMI/SCADA development.
  • Experience with industrial robotics (e.g., FANUC, KUKA, ABB) including programming and integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex automation system issues.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols, sensors, actuators, and motor control systems.
  • Prior experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with data analytics and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) for operational insights.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity principles and best practices in an Operational Technology (OT) environment.
  • Knowledge of Machine Learning or Artificial Intelligence applications in manufacturing (e.g., predictive maintenance, quality control).
  • Experience with industrial vision systems (e.g., Cognex, Keyence) for inspection and guidance.
