Automation Engineer
We’re looking for an experienced Automation Engineer to support the delivery of PLC, HMI, and telemetry control systems across water and utilities projects in the South West. This is a hands-on role covering the full project lifecycle, from detailed design to on-site commissioning.
You’ll be working as part of a collaborative, and experienced automation team, delivering a range of infrastructure projects. There will be on site attendance required and travel to various site(s)/ office when required as well as attending team meetings on a monthly basis.
Responsibilities include:

Writing PLC control software to URS
*
Creating HMI/SCADA graphical interfaces
*
Carrying out software Factory Acceptance Testing (bench FAT)
*
Preparing site telemetry (Prism/ScopeX)
*
Conducting panel (MCC) FAT
*
Installing, testing, and functionally verifying PLC code against URS on-site
*
Integrating with legacy PLC systems
*
Commissioning site telemetry and inter-PLC communications (fibre optic & radio Ethernet)
*
Commissioning and fault-finding fibre optic rings and Profibus DP networks
*
Providing regular updates to the Senior Automation Engineer
We’re seeking a strong communicator who works well in a team-focused environment. You’ll be comfortable working closely with others face-to-face, especially during the initial period while building relationships and trust.
Technical experience:

Siemens TIA Portal (PLC/HMI programming)
*
Siemens Step 7
*
Mitsubishi GXIEC PLCs and E-Series HMIs
*
Prism/ScopeX Telemetry
*
Water/wastewater industry experience (advantage)
Other requirements:

CSCS card (valid)
*
High computer literacy (MS Office, virtual machines)
*
Self-motivated, proactive, and collaborative
*
Clean driving licence & reliable vehicle
IR35: Status to be determined via independent assessment.
For transparency, similar roles in this team have previously fallen Inside IR35.
