Automation Design Engineer

Job DescriptionJob DescriptionAutomation Design EngineerThis exciting role will be responsible for engaging directly with clients to understand their automation needs, designing customized automation solutions, and supporting the quoting and specification process for entire automated manufacturing lines and conveyance systems. A solid understanding of industrial automation and designing robotic systems will be needed to be successful in this role. They are headquartered in the Auburn, WA area. The company specializes in providing packaging innovation at every level of the customer’s operation.   • Needs a proactive, positive attitude and involves regular travel (30-40% of the time) to various customer sites across western WA.
  • The role will consist of about 50% field work out at client sites and 50% design work.
  • Client Interaction & Consultation: Serve as the primary technical contact for clients, helping them define their automation needs, challenges, and objectives for manufacturing lines and conveyance systems.
  • Design & Specification: Work closely with clients to design and specify automation solutions, including the full scope of manufacturing and conveyance lines. Collaborate with the engineering team to ensure the feasibility and functionality of proposed solutions.
  • Quoting & Proposal Development: Lead the process of creating detailed quotes and proposals, including cost estimates, timelines, and technical specifications for automated systems.
  • Technical Presentations: Present design concepts, system solutions, and project proposals to clients, explaining the technical benefits and ensuring alignment with client needs and expectations.
  • System Integration & Customization: Ensure that the designed automation systems are seamlessly integrated with client operations, considering factors like scalability, efficiency, and flexibility.
  • Project Management Support: Collaborate with project managers and engineers to ensure that project timelines, budgets, and specifications are met during implementation.
  • Troubleshooting & Client Support: Provide ongoing technical support during the design and implementation phases, addressing client inquiries and troubleshooting system-related issues.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation for each project, including specifications, proposals, and technical reports for both internal and client-facing purposes.

Qualifications:

  • Available to travel either by car or by air (30-40% of the time) within the Pacific Northwest area as required.
  • Ability to work on-site in Auburn when needed.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience is required.
  • 3+ years of experience in automation or machine design engineering, with a focus on designing manufacturing lines and automation and robotics systems is required.
  • Proven ability to engage with clients, understand their needs, and deliver tailored technical solutions.
  • Knowledge and experience with packaging equipment and materials is .
  • Proficient with using AutoCAD and SolidWorks, using these software to design robotics systems.
  • Familiarity with food industry automation equipment and systems like conveyors, robots (FANUC, Omron, SCADA, Kuka), labelers, food packaging (meat, seafood, and pet food), automated bottle fillers, etc., is .
  • Ability to complete all responsibilities in a timely and professional manner while maintaining quality
  • Excellent problem-solving skills for designing complex systems.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills at all levels of the organization and with customers
  • Demonstrates ability and willingness to learn; owns mistakes and seeks to increase knowledge

Salary Range:

  • $90,000-120,000 depending on experience.
