Automation and Controls Specialist

Job Purpose

Provide technical solutions to automation-related tasks including troubleshooting complex problems, determining root cause, implementation and documentation of solutions. Responsible for designing, installing, maintaining and troubleshooting automation equipment including logic controllers and HMI devices used in production equipment. Must have a broad range of knowledge and understanding of process machinery, electrical controls, instrumentation as well as mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems essential to plant and production related equipment.

Tasks/Essential Duties

· Create effective production workflows through automated machinery and equipment optimization.

· Implement complex electrical and mechanical installation support.

· Support daily facility and production needs to:

Comply with safety regulations

Maintain machinery efficiency

Improve special machinery functions

· Maintain and update plant-wide documentation, including AutoCAD plans, PFDs, P&IDs, and layouts.

· Train personnel on manufacturing equipment operation and support.

· Edit, modify, troubleshoot, and create control programs for programmable devices (Siemens S7, WinCC).

· Install, repair, and service machinery, equipment, and support systems, including:

Electrical equipment (12V–480VAC, 5–600VDC distribution)

PLCs, Profibus, Profinet, Industrial Ethernet

AC/DC drives and motors, sensors, scales, cameras

HMI panels, industrial computers, transducers, power supplies

· Perform all tasks safely, efficiently, and cleanly.

· Contribute to maintenance department performance goals.

· Follow industry regulations and company policies (5S, Safety, ARC policies).

· Additional requirements:

Minimal travel, On-call availability, Overtime on short notice, Weekend/holiday work for, projects or emergencies, Attend company-paid training/school

 

 

 

 

Education: Bachelor

Education specific/specialty:

Industrial Automation, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, or Engineering. Significant industrial automation experience and certification is considered in lieu of d Qualifications required Bachelor

3-5 years proven experience as an industrial electrician/instrument tech/automation specialist

Professional knowledge: Engineering

Job Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

· Advanced knowledge of various programming syntax and proprietary software for connecting, troubleshooting, and optimizing production equipment:

o Siemens

o ABB accepted

o Other automation systems considered

· Read mechanical prints, electrical schematics, and blueprints

· Proper use of precision measuring instruments

· AutoCAD drafting

· Project management skills

Qualifications

· Experience with and maintaining automated machinery

· Plastics plant or calendaring operation experience

· Working knowledge of extrusion, conveying, and calendaring systems (plastics)

· 3–5 years’ proven experience as an industrial electrician, instrument tech, or automation specialist

· Siemens FB and STL programming experience

· Ability to read German a plus
