Position Overview
This entry-level role will provide AUTOCAD support for various engineering and environmental clients, Drone aerial mapping services, GPS surveying, and environmental field-testing under the supervision of the Dayton Engineering Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide AUTOCAD support services for various engineering projects
- Provide AUTOCAD support for preparation of annual license applications, modifications, exemptions, and construction documentation reports for various landfill facilities
- Provide AUTOCAD support for preparation of maps and plans for environmental reports and application, including NPDES permit applications, air permit applications, Phase I Environmental Assessments, etc…
- Aerial mapping using UAS Drones including Sensefly eBee classic, Sensefly eBee X, Parrot ANAFI Work and Yuneec H520E
- UAS Drone software processing including Sensefly eMotion 3 flight programing and Pix4D Mapper
- GPS field surveying for UAS drone ground control, construction staking and general field locations using Trimble GEO 7x and Zephyr Antenna or Spectra SP-85 Antenna and Trimble TSC-5 Data Collector
- Landfill construction observation, testing and documentation services using a nuclear densitometer
- Routine groundwater, surface water, and leachate sampling and associated reporting
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a vocational or career center program with a focus on Computer-Aided Design (CAD) strongly .
- Associate’s degree in Computer-Aided Drafting, Engineering Technology, Drone Technology, Environmental Sciences or a related field is .
- Experience or familiarity with drone operation and photogrammetry is a plus.
- AutoCAD proficiency strongly desired
- Entry-level position – on the job training will be available as needed.
Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong verbal and written communication skills internally with coworkers
- Demonstrated technical understanding of UAS operations and associated software desired but not required
- FAA – Certified Drone Pilot desired but not required
- Ability and willingness to learn skills necessary to support a variety of engineering and environmental projects
- Clean driving record. No more than two incidents within the last 36 months. This employee must meet the company’s insurance eligibility requirements.
Staff Management:
No direct management; however, this employee is expected to collaborate effectively with other BMI staff to achieve project deadlines.
Financial Management:
This employee will need to track their direct and indirect time, especially as it pertains to project budgets. Other responsibilities dependent upon experience.

- Reports to Engineering and Environmental Services Manager (Dept 27)

Physical Requirements:
Physical Ability
- Stand, walk, push, pull, stoop, twist, reach overhead, climb stairs; lift minimum of 80 pounds.
- Must be able to sit up to 3 hours at a time
- Must be able to pass pre-employment physical, motor vehicle report, and drug screen
- Work Conditions – Work may expose the employee to inclement weather conditions during the course of fieldwork.
Work Conditions
- Field work required and is typically within driving distance from office (e.g. throughout Ohio)
- Some field work will require overnight stays
- Office setting; typical work week is 40 hours per week with seasonal variation
- Percentage of field work to office work will be about 50%
