As an Authorised Person (AP), you will ensure electrical safety during switching operations and issue safety documents in accordance with established Electrical Safety Rules. You will apply isolations, supervise working parties, and maintain safe working practices on electrical systems up to 33kV.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform switching operations within your authorisation level.
- Apply isolations and safety precautions per procedures.
- Prepare, issue, and cancel Safety Documents (e.g. LVPTW, LOA).
- Supervise Competent Persons and working parties.
- Conduct “Prove Dead” procedures before work begins.
- Ensure clear work area demarcation and safety boundaries.
- Coordinate with the Control Engineer for system release and restoration.
- Maintain general safety and report hazards or process breaches.
- Complete risk assessments and method statements for all tasks.
Requirements
- Electrical trade background or equivalent qualification.
- Recognised AP training and written appointment by an Authorising Engineer.
- Knowledge of LV/HV switchgear, isolation principles, and safety protocols.
- Familiarity with safety documentation and standards (e.g. EN 50110-1).
- Proven supervisory and procedural compliance experience.
