Iowa Audio Video (IAV) is an established professional audio/visual integration firm specializing in the design and installation of state-of-the-art integrated AV systems for business environments. Based in Clive, Iowa, IAV serves clients throughout Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Nebraska, Colorado, and Wyoming. We are seeking to add a full-time professional to our team at our Clive, Iowa office.
Position Description
We are seeking a self-driven Design Engineer responsible for supporting the sales team by providing technical expertise during client consultations and developing comprehensive audiovisual system designs. This role involves assisting sales personnel on client meetings to evaluate project requirements, followed by the creation of detailed system designs, scopes of work, and associated documentation within the company’s design and quoting platforms. The position focuses on corporate boardrooms, conference and training spaces, houses of worship, and retail and hospitality environments. Core responsibilities include translating client needs into engineered AV system designs, producing detailed proposals, generating installation drawings, and supporting project execution through accurate and complete documentation.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have experience in supporting client relationships within a high-end design and service environment. A strong customer-service mindset is essential, along with excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills. Candidates should demonstrate a deep understanding of video conferencing systems, corporate AV environments, retail AV applications, display technologies, lighting and shading control systems, and network infrastructure. Proficiency in AV design and documentation software is required, including AutoCAD, D-Tools, XTEN-AV, or similar platforms. Candidates must be capable of developing detailed system drawings, equipment lists, and signal flow diagrams. A working knowledge of control system platforms such as QSC, Extron, AMX, or Crestron is required, with programming experience considered a strong advantage. Candidates must also be able to read and interpret architectural and construction drawings and understand commercial construction practices, including power, conduit, and core drilling. Experience coordinating with millwork, furniture, and other trades is expected.
Responsibilities
This position involves working alongside sales personnel to attend client meetings and site visits, providing technical input to help define system requirements and ensure appropriate solution development. Responsibilities include designing AV systems, creating detailed scopes of work, generating project estimates, and producing complete drawing packages for installation. The role also includes developing and maintaining accurate project documentation within company software platforms, assisting with control system design, and supporting the engineering team during commissioning and system deployment. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with sales, engineering, and operations teams to ensure designs are aligned with project goals and installation requirements. Regular communication with clients, trade partners, and internal teams is required, along with participation in weekly sales and production meetings.
Qualifications
Industry certifications such as CTS or CTS-I, along with manufacturer certifications from QSC, Extron, Biamp, Crestron or similar platforms, are highly valued. Experience with Q-SYS, Extron, Crestron, and familiarity with Solutions360 (Q360) design and quoting software are considered strong advantages.
Position Details
This is a full-time, in-person position based in Clive, Iowa. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
