Associate Manager, Production Engineering, Energy

Overview

Associate Manager, Production Engineering, Energy at Tesla. Location: Gigafactory 1, Sparks, NV. The role leads an equipment & process engineering team responsible for metrics related to Powerwall 3 manufacturing, driving improvements in overall equipment efficiency, product yield, cost and cycle time through documented actions with defined schedules and expected results.

What You'll Do

Manage, mentor and lead a team of equipment and process engineers at Nevada Energy

Ensure Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) assurance functions, including safety training, documenting incidents, correcting workplace hazards, and empowering continuous improvement

Build and improve management systems to ensure equipment operates safely, with high availability, product quality and low cycle time

Own, report on and drive improvement of area OEE and KPIs including equipment availability, product yield, cycle time and cost

Coach engineers and technicians to develop and implement equipment upgrades and process changes to increase capacity, lower cost and improve yield

Lead and assist engineers and technicians in resolving unplanned down events and driving permanent RCCAs, using the 3D/8D process where applicable

Make daily resource allocation decisions, balancing competing priorities to serve engineering, maintenance and production needs

Serve as backup engineer for all team members to ensure coverage and address escalating issues

Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Controls, Quality, Maintenance, NPI, Design and other teams to resolve issues and drive continuous improvement activities

What You'll Bring

Degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience

Experience leading teams within highly automated, high volume manufacturing facilities (assembly, robotics, etc.)

Track record of high-impact contributions as individual engineer and in management

Hands-on experience with lean manufacturing principles

Ability to meet commitments and deliver results in a fast-paced technical environment

Ability to manage multiple large-scale projects and adjust priorities as needed

Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

Experience with structured problem-solving methodologies (DOE, root cause analysis, etc.)

Experience with mechanical, automation, and controls engineering highly
