Job Description
Title: Associate Director of Structural Engineering\n\nLocation: Cambridge\n\nAbout the role:\n\nWe are looking for an Associate Director level Chartered Structural Engineer to join a growing design consultancy and provide technical design support to a range of clients in the UK, with ongoing work available and excellent development opportunities for the right individual.\n\nAs an Associate Director level Chartered Structural Engineer, you will be leading a range of residential, commercial and industrial projects and should be able to demonstrate experience in completing design and managing teams on projects in these sectors. The work will entail both new build and refurbishment requirements, and you will be responsible for leading the technical aspects within these projects, overseeing teams in the preparation of technical details and specifications and working closely with Architects, clients and subcontractors.\n\nWithin the role of an Associate Director of Structural Engineering, it will be essential for the chosen individual to complete and review accurate reports and designs, and your input and contribution to the development of the team are viewed as essential in the continued wider development of the business.\n\nAs part of your responsibilities as an Associate Director of Structural Engineering, your guidance to more junior engineers and CAD technicians will be invaluable in supporting the business as the engineering department as a whole strives to provide continued excellent client service.\n\nYour responsibilities will include managing existing client relationships, as well as generating new business opportunities and leading the line for the business. You will be responsible for the financial, technical and project management control of all aspects of projects.
You will at a strategic level prepare an outline brief, visit site, review information (including planning history and services), prepare preliminary layouts, assess risks and assist in budget and programming. You will also prepare technical details for the architectural design, and prepare technical specifications, while liaising with architects, clients, subcontractors and other professionals.\n\nAbout you:\n\nCandidates should have a minimum of 4 years of experience working for UK-based design consultancies, and a background working on similar projects is desired in order to ensure a close match to the existing and upcoming workload.\n\nIn addition to having a confident, commercial and professional outlook you should have:\n\n * Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering\n\n * Minimum of 10 years of UK-based experience\n\n * Chartered status with the IStructE or ICE\n\n * Experience working with Steel, Concrete, Masonry and Timber materials\n\n * Commercial and Business Development skills in generating and managing client relationships and project requirements\n\n * Strength in working to British Standards, Eurocodes and relevant design guidance\n\n * Strong analytical, communication and technical design skills\n\n * Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English\n\nSoftware required:\n\n * AutoCAD\n\n * Microsoft Office suite\n\nAbout the business:\n\nThe company are an established design consultancy who have been working on UK-based projects across the last 50 years and has built up a reputation for working on projects to a high level of detail and client satisfaction.
