Associate Director - Chartered Building Surveying\n\nLiverpool (with flexibility for regional travel)\n\nReports to: Director / Managing Director\n\nOur client is a well-established SME consultancy based in Liverpool, delivering multidisciplinary services across the North West and UK. With over 35 years of trusted expertise, they pride ourselves on offering client-focused, technically robust, and sustainable solutions across a wide range of sectors, including commercial, residential, education, health, and heritage.\n\nRole Purpose:\nThe Associate Director will play a senior leadership role within the Building Surveying division, responsible for growing and developing the service line, managing high-value projects, leading a team of surveyors, and supporting the Directors in driving the strategic direction of the business.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\nLeadership & Strategy\n\nLead the Building Surveying team, mentoring staff and ensuring technical excellence.\nSupport Directors in shaping strategy, business development, and expanding client relationships.\nContribute to the vision of sustainability, innovation, and community impact.\n\nTechnical Delivery\n\nProvide expert advice on building pathology, defects analysis, and remedial solutions.\nUndertake and oversee dilapidations, party wall matters, schedules of condition, contract administration, and project management.\nDeliver condition surveys, feasibility studies, and building lifecycle assessments.\nEnsure compliance with health and safety, CDM regulations, and industry standards.\n\nBusiness Development\n\nIdentify opportunities and secure new instructions from both existing and prospective clients.\nRepresent at networking events, professional bodies, and in the Liverpool business community.\nDevelop marketing strategies to raise the profile of the Building Surveying service.\n\nTeam & Financial Management\n\nManage workload allocation, resourcing, and project profitability.\nMonitor KPIs and financial performance of the department.\nSupport recruitment, staff retention, and career development of junior surveyors.\n\nQualifications & Experience:\n\nMRICS qualified (essential).\nProven track record in a senior Building Surveying role, ideally within a consultancy environment.\nStrong technical knowledge across the full range of building surveying services.\nExperience managing teams and delivering projects from inception to completion.\nCommercial acumen and ability to generate repeat and new business.\n\nSkills & Attributes:\n\nStrong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.\nProactive and entrepreneurial mindset.\nClient-focused with excellent negotiation and problem-solving skills.\nAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced SME environment.\n\nWhat We Offer:\n\nClear progression to Director and equity in the company\nAttractive salary £60000 - £90000 depending on experience\nOpportunity to shape and grow the Building Surveying service line.\nCompany Pension Scheme \nDiscretionary bonus paid twice per year\nGroup Income Protection - 80% of salary deferred for 26 weeks\nGroup Life Assurance - 2 x Salary currently capped at £150,000\n25 days' annual leave in addition to bank holidays\nCar Park Pass\nCompany Mobile Phone\nProfessional Subscriptions paid\nAccess to Company Benefits Portal including:\nHoliday Enhance - the chance to purchase up to 5 additional days' leave\nSeason Ticket loans\nThe opportunity to purchase Goods & Services and repay over 12 months interest-free under salary exchange\nHybrid and flexible working options.\n\nWhat you need to do now\nIf you're interested in this role, click 'apply now' to forward an up-to-date copy of your CV, or call us now.\nIf this job isn't quite right for you, but you are looking for a new position, please contact us for a confidential discussion about your career.\n\nHays Specialist Recruitment Limited acts as an employment agency for permanent recruitment and employment business for the supply of temporary workers.
