Job Description
We’re partnered with a Chicago-based real estate developer that’s continuing to expand its in-house construction team and is looking to add an Assistant Project Manager.
This is a great opportunity for someone early in their career to get hands-on exposure to ground-up and complex renovation projects, working directly alongside experienced Project Managers, senior leadership, and development teams.
About the Company
- Established, privately held Chicago developer
- In-house development & construction platform
- Active pipeline of multifamily, mixed-use, commercial, and urban infill projects
- Strong reputation for quality, repeat partners, and long-term team retention
- Collaborative, relationship-driven culture (low ego, high standards)
The Role
As an Assistant Project Manager, you’ll support project teams through all phases of construction, from preconstruction through closeout, while developing the skills needed to step into a full Project Manager role.
Responsibilities include:
- Supporting PMs with budgeting, buyouts, and subcontractor coordination
- Tracking schedules, RFIs, submittals, and change orders
- Assisting with owner, architect, and consultant communication
- On-site coordination with superintendents and trade partners
- Exposure to preconstruction, design coordination, and early deal involvement
- Maintaining project documentation and reporting through Procore and related tools
What They’re Looking For
- 2–5 years of construction experience (APM, Project Engineer, or similar)
- Experience on multifamily, mixed-use, commercial, or interiors projects
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field
- Strong communication, organization, and follow-through
- Someone hungry to learn, take ownership, and grow with the platform
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
- Clear path from APM → Project Manager
- Direct mentorship from senior PMs and leadership
- Developer-side exposure (not just “paper pushing”)
- Stable pipeline of Chicago-based projects
- Competitive base salary + bonus
- Full benefits package
If you’re an Assistant Project Manager looking to step into a developer environment with real responsibility and long-term growth, this is a role worth exploring.
