Job Title: ASC Instrument Technician
Reports to: ASC OR Manager

Looking for 24-32 Hours

General Summary of Duties:

The ASC Instrument Technician is responsible for understanding sterilization and high-level disinfection technologies including industry standardized principles and practice in sterilization and disinfection. The ASC Instrument Technician will work out of the surgery center sterilizing and disinfecting the instruments used.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ability to correlate clinical information with patient’s care under the direction of the Clinical Leader/Registered Nurse.
  • Demonstrates ability to respond to patient care needs in an emergency situation and under direction of Clinical Leader/Registered Nurse.
  • Initiates and implements basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (BCLS) under the direction of the Clinical Leader/Registered Nurse.
  • Assists Clinical Leader/Registered Nurse as assigned to orient the patient and family to the patient care environment and facility routines.
  • Provides appropriate interventions related to safety issues according to job position, role and responsibilities and assigned by the Clinical Leader/Registered Nurse.
  • Functions as an Instrument Processing Technician under the direction of the Clinical Leader/Registered Nurse.
  • Knowledge of sterilization procedures, aseptic technique, and maintenance and care of instruments and equipment.
  • Knowledge of standards and engages in practices and procedures of sterile technique.
  • Cleans and/or disinfects instruments and equipment after use and returns it to the proper area, in appropriate sequence, for storage and/or processing.
  • Differentiates sterilization and disinfection methods required for specific instruments and equipment.
  • Demonstrates ability to understand and use sterilizers, high-level disinfectors, instrument washers, and other designated processors.
  • Demonstrates ability to understand use, function, interpretation, documentation, and record-keeping of chemical and biological indicators related to instrument and equipment sterilization and low, intermediate, and high-level disinfection processes.
  • Completes all documentation to ensure the availability of accurate and up to date information in accordance with established standards.
  • Cleans, wraps, sterilizes, and disinfects instruments and equipment and maintains the functions of the instrument processing area/department.
  • Maintains area/department in an orderly/organized fashion.
  • Continues assigned daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly routines, including requirements with reports, logs and related documentation.
  • Assists teammates with daily preparation for current and future facility schedules (pulling cases and assembling supplies) as assigned.
  • Assists in room turnover when needed and as assigned.
  • Adheres to established facility safety requirements and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Completes all employee/patient incident documentation in a thorough and timely manner, as required by facility policy and according to management guidance.
  • Practices infection control and standard precautions as instructed or trained.
  • Assists with the preparation of the operating room/procedure room for surgery/procedures as directed.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the manager to meet department needs.

Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Prior experience as a surgical technologist/procedure technologist .
  • Successful completion of BCLS Course within 90 days of employment required or documentation of current BCLS certification.
  • Certification in instrument processing is .
  • Must be able to travel to all sites if/when necessary
