Construction Manager – Industrial Boiler Construction

Location: Cheyenne, WY (On-site with travel)

Employment Type: Direct Hire

This role is based in Farmington, NM and supports industrial construction projects across a multi-state region including Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, and the western 1⁄2 of Nebraska. The organization is a leader in complex industrial boiler and power- construction, delivering large-scale projects ranging from $10M to $100M+. This is a direct hire opportunity offering a competitive salary range of $147,500–$160,500 plus a highly lucrative bonus structure.

This is a high-impact, field-first leadership role where you’ll own projects from RFQ through completion. You’ll operate with autonomy, managing client relationships, driving execution, and ensuring profitability across multiple projects. If you thrive in technically complex environments, enjoy leading from the front, and take pride in delivering safe, high-quality boiler construction projects—this is the kind of role where you can make a serious mark.

Role Overview

  • Oversee multi-state project execution with full ownership of schedule, cost, and quality
  • Interface directly with clients, engineers, and internal stakeholders

  • Balance office-based planning with field presence and client visits

✈️ Travel Expectations

  • Up to 50% travel depending on project demands
  • Mix of:
  • Local day trips
  • Extended travel for major project phases
  • Heavier travel in spring and fall, lighter in summer and winter
  • Travel is self-managed based on project needs and client success

Required Experience

  • 10–20+ years of construction experience
  • 5+ years in a Construction Manager, Superintendent, or similar leadership role
  • Direct experience in industrial boiler or power- construction (required)
  • Background in commercial/residential construction alone is not sufficient
  • Experience managing large-scale projects ($10M–$100M+)

️ Technical Expertise

  • Deep knowledge of:
  • Boiler erection sequencing
  • Pressure-part installation and welding scopes
  • Structural steel systems and access platforms
  • Heavy rigging and crane operations
  • Experience with:
  • Weld quality and inspection coordination
  • Scaffolding and temporary support systems
  • High-elevation and tight-clearance work
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Brownfield construction environments
  • Outage scheduling and execution

Planning & Project Controls

  • Proven ability to:
  • Develop and execute detailed work plans
  • Coordinate engineering, procurement, and field teams
  • Manage labor productivity and resource allocation
  • Track costs, forecast trends, and protect project margins
  • Experience with:
  • Schedule development and recovery planning
  • Change management and scope control

Safety Leadership (Critical)

  • Leads safety as a core part of execution, not a separate function
  • Hands-on experience managing:
  • Confined space entry (boilers, ductwork)
  • Work at height
  • Hot work in high-risk environments
  • Heavy lifts and rigging operations
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) in live plant settings
  • Leads from the front:
  • Conducts pre-task planning
  • Holds teams accountable
  • Stops work when conditions are unsafe

Leadership & Team Management

  • Field-first, hands-on leadership style
  • Experience managing:
  • Union and/or non-union labor
  • Subcontractors and specialty trades
  • Proven ability to develop:
  • Superintendents
  • Field engineers
  • Future leaders

Communication & Client Management

  • Strong communicator across:
  • Clients and owner representatives
  • Engineering and QA/QC teams
  • Safety and project controls
  • Able to clearly articulate:
  • Technical challenges
  • Schedule impacts
  • Cost and risk tradeoffs
  • Maintains professionalism in high-pressure environments

What Success Looks Like

  • Protects profitability through disciplined execution
  • Minimizes rework and quality issues
  • Builds strong, lasting client relationships
  • Executes outage work with zero serious safety incidents
  • Leaves teams stronger than they were at project start

Culture Fit

  • Team-oriented but highly accountable individual contributor
  • Comfortable working independently and owning outcomes
  • Thrives in technically demanding, high-risk environments
  • Adaptable to evolving project scopes and priorities
  • Takes pride in doing complex industrial work the right way
