Position Overview
The Architect will serve as a key creative and technical partner to the organization, supporting TurnDev’s design direction across all projects. This role is ideal for someone who is both design-driven and detail-oriented, with the ability to translate conceptual vision into feasible, buildable architecture.
You will work closely with the Managing Partner to shape project concepts, lead design development, manage consultants, and ensure that each project reflects TurnDev’s commitment to quality, community, and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Work directly with the Managing Partner to develop architectural concepts, design narratives, and master plans for new and existing projects.
- Lead the design process from early visioning through construction documentation and construction administration.
- Support the Managing Partner in evaluating sites, analyzing feasibility, and developing design-led development strategies.
- Lead architectural work on adaptive reuse, historic preservation, multifamily, mixed-use, and hospitality projects.
- Produce drawings, models, renderings, and presentations to communicate design intent to internal teams, investors, municipalities, and community partners.
- Coordinate with engineering consultants, contractors, and external design partners.
- Ensure compliance with zoning, building codes, historic preservation guidelines, and permitting requirements.
- Assist with historic tax credit documentation and design requirements when applicable.
- Participate in community meetings, design reviews, and public presentations as needed.
- Maintain design integrity throughout construction by supporting site reviews and collaborating with project management.
- Provide input to the Managing Partner on design strategy, project risks, timelines, and value-engineering options.
- Mentor junior staff or outside design collaborators as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in architecture is highly .
- Architecture license.
- 5–10+ years of architectural experience, ideally including adaptive reuse, multifamily, and mixed-use work.
- Strong experience working on historic buildings or participating in preservation-focused projects is a major asset.
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, or similar.
- Strong rendering, visualization, and presentation abilities.
- Ability to work independently while partnering closely with a managing partner–led leadership structure.
- Excellent communication, organization, and project management skills.
- Experience coordinating with engineering consultants and construction teams.
- Passion for urban revitalization, sustainable design, and meaningful placemaking.
