Aquatic Specialist/Biologist Job Outline

Aquatechnex is a lake management service firm which operates in the States of Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Montana and Utah.  The company worked with federal, state and local agencies that manage water bodies, lake associations and homeowners associations with lakes, and golf communities.  We have a recognized expertise in the restoration of lakes, reservoirs and river systems impacted by invasive aquatic weeds through selective herbicide applications. We also work to mitigate harmful algae blooms utilizing in lake applications to sequester phosphorus and supply lake aeration systems.

The job of the aquatic specialist, once trained, is to interact with clients and potential clients to determine what their problems are, utilize mapping and sampling to quantify problems and offer solutions, obtain necessary permits, conduct treatments, analyze results and report to the client.  Reporting includes developing follow-on activities necessary.

The specialist is required to study for and test for a License as a aquatic herbicide applicator with the state (s) where they work.  They are also required to obtain a state boat operator’s license.  We provide educational support for this.

Starting in May, the first portion of the workflow will be assisting our current teams implement programs that have been developed over the winter for specific water bodies.  This includes operating a boat, assisting with permit required public notification, assisting in the application of control technologies and reporting.  The applicant should be able to swim as we are working on the water.

In season this is not a 9 to 5 job.  The lakes we work on can be anywhere from 20 to 200 miles from our offices.  In the summer months we generally start early in the morning, drive to the project site, complete the mission and head back to the office.  There are some overnight missions throughout the summer.  In the Northern Tier states, our work is seasonal. Field work occurs from May through August with some reduced field work in September.  Winter months are spent organizing for the following season, doing consultive sales work, interfacing with state permitting agencies as necessary and continuing education through attendance at professional scientific society meetings and online training.
