Application Engineering Manager (Technical Sales Support)

Location: Rolling Meadows, IL (Chicago Area) – On-site

A global electronics manufacturer is seeking an experienced Application Engineering Manager to lead technical sales support activities and manage engineering functions across the U.S. Midwest and East regions. This role combines customer-facing technical expertise with internal team leadership and cross-functional collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide technical sales support to customers across the Midwest and Eastern U.S., including on-site visits and web meetings.
Travel to customer sites approximately 2–3 times per month.
Support sales teams with technical clarifications, product recommendations, and solution development.
Collaborate closely with R&D teams (Japan headquarters) on technical inquiries, product development, and ongoing projects.
Review and validate customer questionnaires, specifications, and approval documentation.
Lead and support key projects, as well as execute special assignments from senior management.
Analyze U.S. market trends and propose new product ideas to R&D (industries include automotive, industrial, new energy, ICT, and home appliances).
Manage customer complaints and ensure timely technical resolution.
Communicate product updates, changes, and new product information to internal sales teams.
Train and mentor junior engineers, supporting team development and knowledge transfer
Oversee and contribute to internal engineering management and operations.

Qualifications:

Minimum 10+ years of relevant experience in application engineering, technical sales support, or related roles.
Prior management or leadership experience .
Educational background in a technical field (chemistry, physics, or other science/engineering disciplines).
Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills.
Ability to lead cross-functional collaboration between sales, engineering, and R&D teams.

English: Required (business level)
Japanese: but not required

Willingness to travel domestically (Midwest and East regions)
Proactive, customer-facing mindset with strong initiative.
Comfortable working in an on-site environment (no remote work)
Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead a team effectively.

Compensation & Benefits:

Salary: $110,000 – $120,000/year
