Application Engineer

Location: Knoxville, TN
Job Type: Full-Time
Pay Range: $90,000-120,000

 

Position Overview

M Force Partners is seeking a Application Engineer to support technical sales, proposal development, and project execution for complex engineered systems. This role serves as the technical authority during the proposal phase while also supporting project teams through execution, testing, and documentation.

 

This position is ideal for a senior-level engineer with deep experience in process systems, water purification, and engineered equipment who can lead technically, interface with customers, and mentor team members in a collaborative, safety-focused environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Review customer specifications and compare requirements against standard product offerings
  • Develop technical clarifications and exceptions to specifications as needed
  • Provide technical leadership and customer-facing support during the proposal and pre-award phase
  • Perform equipment sizing and selection, including heat exchangers, pumps, water pretreatment systems, evaporators, and RO systems
  • Prepare proposal and concept drawings such as P&IDs, general arrangements, and component lists
  • Source and evaluate technical quotes for non-standard equipment and components
  • Develop and revise project P&IDs and process documentation for custom solutions
  • Create process functional descriptions for non-standard or engineered-to-order systems
  • Specify instrumentation and valve requirements for customized applications
  • Support project engineers during technical execution, troubleshooting, and design reviews
  • Develop and review test procedures, test reports, and customer submittals
  • Review and approve drawings, BOMs, manuals, and technical documentation
  • Lead by example in promoting a strong safety culture and adherence to ISO procedures
  • Support training, technical development, and skill growth of engineering team members
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and operations
  • Provide technical guidance to help team members overcome design or execution challenges
  • Assist leadership in assessing team capabilities and aligning skills with organizational goals

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in life sciences, food & beverage, or industrial water purification systems
  • Strong understanding of process systems, equipment sizing, and engineered solutions
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including managing and analyzing large cost datasets
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally
  • Ability to lead technically while collaborating with sales, engineering, and operations teams
  • Authorization to work for a U.S. employer

 

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting proposal-driven or engineered-to-order environments
  • Background leading or mentoring application or project engineers
  • Familiarity with ISO-regulated engineering or manufacturing environments
