Job Description
A well-established industrial manufacturer is seeking an experienced Applications Engineer / CNC Programmer to support the programming and machining of large, complex components. This role is primarily focused on CNC lathe programming, with some CNC mill work as needed. The ideal candidate is proficient in CAM programming, adaptable to different software platforms, and comfortable working in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
This position plays a key role in translating engineering requirements into efficient, accurate CNC programs while supporting ongoing improvements in machining processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, optimize, and maintain CNC programs primarily for CNC lathes, with some milling work as needed
- Program large, complex industrial components with tight tolerances
- Utilize CAM software to create efficient toolpaths and machining strategies (software-agnostic; experience with multiple platforms is welcome)
- Collaborate with engineering, machining, and shop floor teams to support production and troubleshooting
- Support setup, prove-outs, and first-article runs
- Recommend tooling, fixturing, and process improvements to improve cycle times and part quality
- Review prints, models, and specifications to ensure manufacturability
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience as a CNC Programmer, Applications Engineer, or similar role
- Strong experience programming CNC lathes; CNC mill experience is a plus
- Proficiency in CAM programming; open to various CAM software platforms
- Experience working with large industrial or heavy machined components
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T
- Strong understanding of tooling, feeds and speeds, and machining best practices
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing and shop-floor environment
Experience
- Background in heavy machining, gear manufacturing, or industrial components
- Experience with multiple CAM systems (such as Mastercam, NX, GibbsCAM, Esprit, or similar)
- Experience working closely with machinists and production teams
