Job Title: Aerodynamics Development Engineer (INDYCAR)

Location: Indianapolis, IN

Position Type: Full-Time


Overview:

The Aerodynamics Development Engineer will be dedicated to the Andretti INDYCAR team and contribute towards improving the aerodynamic performance of the cars, working closely with engineers from other departments to deliver -winning performance.

In this role, you will:

  • Participate in full-scale wind tunnel testing, including preparation, test execution, and data analysis.
  • Process and interpret aerodynamic and on-board data to make data-driven recommendations for on-track performance improvements.
  • Utilize CAD tools (Siemens NX ) to develop both prototype parts for testing and production-ready parts for use on track.
  • Collaborate with development, engineering, and simulation groups to integrate wind tunnel findings into setups and overall car performance.
  • Support car assembly, verifying compliance with build documents & IndyCar technical regulations.
  • Properly document wind tunnel testing results & analysis.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of tools, processes, and testing methodologies.
  • Occasional travel to support offsite wind tunnel testing, , or test events.

Education and Experience (Required):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 1–2 years of relevant industry experience, ideally in motorsport, automotive, or aerospace.
  • Proficiency with CAD design tools (Siemens NX ) and experience creating engineering drawings for manufacturing.
  • Hands-on experience with full-scale wind tunnel testing or other aerodynamic development methods.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office tools (Excel, OneNote, SharePoint, etc.)
  • Familiarity with both traditional and additive manufacturing processes.

Skills

  • Master’s degree or higher in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with Cosworth Pi data systems.
  • Hands-on experience working on cars, including assembly, setup, and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with CFD workflows and aerodynamic simulation tools (OpenFOAM, Star CCM+, or Fluent)
  • Understanding of fundamental car dynamics and vehicle performance.
  • Experience with scripting or automation (Python, MATLAB, etc.) for data analysis.
