We are currently seeking a skilled Accounting Systems Analyst to join our Newport News client's finance team in a highly analytical and strategic role. This position is ideal for someone with a solid foundation in accounting, advanced Excel capabilities, and a background in financial data interpretation — preferably within the healthcare sector.
NOTE: This is a 13-week contract position with possible to go permanent based on performance.
Key Qualifications (Required):
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is mandatory (No exceptions; other degrees will not be considered)
- Prior professional experience as a Financial Analyst
- Demonstrated expertise in Excel, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and large data set manipulation
- Proven ability to work with financial data and reporting tools
- Healthcare finance or accounting exposure is strongly
Background:
- Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance is a plus
- CPA designation is a bonus; 1 year of experience in healthcare accounting or finance can be accepted in place of CPA
- Experience with budget preparation, financial statement analysis, and data reporting
Primary Responsibilities:
- Independently perform advanced-level financial and accounting analysis aligned with established accounting standards and practices.
- Lead monthly calculations and evaluations of revenue adjustments, charitable contributions, and write-offs.
- Prepare and submit cost reports for Medicare and Medicaid, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
- Develop and maintain operating budgets, support regulatory reporting efforts, and assist in tax filings at federal, state, and local levels.
- Stay current on relevant government regulations and ensure all accounting processes remain compliant.
- Analyze and refine accounting procedures to ensure alignment with theoretical best practices; propose and implement enhancements as needed.
- Coordinate directly with auditors, consultants, regulators, and internal leadership.
- Carry out additional finance-related projects and duties as needed.
