Job Description
Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Accessibility Remediation Specialist to review and update Microsoft Word and PDF documents to meet ADA, WCAG 2.1 AA, and Section 508 accessibility standards. This role ensures our public-facing documents are fully accessible, properly tagged, and compliant with current accessibility guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Remediate Word and PDF documents for accessibility compliance
- Apply correct heading structure, ALT text, reading order, tagging, bookmarks, and metadata
- Convert documents cleanly between Word and PDF while maintaining accessibility
- Identify accessibility issues and correct formatting problems
- Communicate with content owners to clarify intent or resolve issues
- Ensure all deliverables meet Section 508 / WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards
- Use Accessibility Checkers to validate documents
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word accessibility features (styles, headings, tables, lists, alt text)
- Advanced experience in Adobe Acrobat Pro (tagging, reading order, accessibility tools,
- remediation)
- Understanding of Section 508, WCAG 2.1 AA, and ADA requirements
- Ability to remediate complex documents, including forms, tables, and multi-section reports
- High attention to detail and strong quality assurance skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Experience with large organisations or the government/public sector is a plus
Skills (Optional)
- Experience with AEM Forms, fillable PDFs, or form accessibility
- Knowledge of screen readers (JAWS, NVDA)
- Experience writing accessibility reports or documenting remediation steps
