Job Description
Systems Engineer\n Cambridge | Hybrid (3/4 days on site)\n £50k - £70k\n\n Join a Cambridge-based engineering business developing precision instruments that combine sensors, electronics, thermal systems, firmware, and mechanical assemblies for demanding environments. You’ll work across the full development cycle, from concept and modelling to integration, testing, and deployment.\n\n What you’ll be doing:\n\nIntegrate electronics, sensors, firmware, thermal, and mechanical subsystems into robust instruments.\nDefine and manage electrical, mechanical, thermal, and software interfaces.\nPlan and execute system integration tests, troubleshoot issues, and validate performance.\nDesign experiments to characterise system behaviour under temperature, vibration, or pressure changes.\nCollaborate with engineers across disciplines to ensure subsystem performance meets system-level requirements.\nAnalyse data and guide iterative design improvements.Technical skills required:\n\nControl systems and system dynamics\nElectronics and instrumentation\nThermal systems and stabilisation\nMechanical integration and packaging\nData analysis (Python)\nExperimental design and testingWhat we’re looking for:\n\nDegree in Physics, Electrical, Mechanical, Control, or related engineering discipline.\nExperience with complex, multidisciplinary systems and hands-on troubleshooting.\nUnderstanding of feedback control and dynamic system behaviour.\nAbility to move between modelling, experimentation, and practical engineering.\nStrong communication skills and comfortable working across disciplines.Nice to have: Embedded systems, firmware, or sensor interface experience.
