Job Summary:
A Supplier Development Engineer (SDE) makes sure that all the product specifications, parts, materials, and processes needed to design, build, and deliver complex ThinKom RF Antenna productsflow through the supply chain to meet project requirements and schedule. The SDE improves and manages supplier performance to ensure quality, cost, and delivery requirements are met for development purchases.They collaborate with suppliers to implement process improvements, resolve issues, and ensure compliance with technical and quality standards.Key responsibilities include evaluating supplier capabilities, managing quotations, writing purchase orders, and qualifying new suppliers and parts in preparation for the higher rate production supply chain. The SDE works alongside engineering during the development cycle to design and build first prototype assemblies including machined parts, RF components, cables/harnessing and electronic Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs).
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with multiple engineering Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) under the direction of the Program Manager and VP of Engineering
- Initiate Requests for Quotation (RFQs) from supply base and subsequently generates Purchase Orders with approved suppliers
- Balances cost, quality, and lead time when sourcing components
- Identifies, evaluates, and manages suppliers of technical materials or parts
- Negotiates contracts and ensures suppliers meet quality and performance standards
- Works closely with engineering teams to qualify new suppliers or components
- Acts as the main Point of Contact (POC) for suppliers on development projects
- Partners with design and manufacturing engineers to ensure components are manufacturable and available
- Supports new product introductions (NPI) by aligning supply chain capabilities with engineering specifications
- Provides input on design-for-supply-chain (DfSC) or design-for-manufacturing (DfM) decisions
- Reviews technical component Procurement Specifications with the Engineering team for requirement accuracy, consistency (meeting the functional requirements of the design without excessive margin), applicability while also focusing on regulatory and quality standards
- Works to support multiple programs/products simultaneously
- Follows Company design procedures and corporate policies
- Other tasks, as assigned from time to time
Skills and/or Experience Needed:
- BS in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
- Understanding of engineering drawings, BOMs (Bills of Materials), and product lifecycles.
- Engineering procurement, cost analysis, and contract management
- Must have excellent organizational skills to juggle projects, and track quotations, POs, reports, certifications, and other documentation
- Technically proficient in MS Office products
Additional Skills Desired, but not required:
- Experience working on DoD contracts, with an understanding of defense acquisition processes and requirements
- Experience negotiating long term supplier pricing and contracts
Skills:
- Interpersonal skills to effectively work with ThinKom people internally as well as working effectively with suppliers
- Ability to effectively present information in team meetings and design reviews, as needed
Other Abilities:
- Ability to communicate clearly in a well thought-out manner, verbal and written
- Must have substantial problem-solving abilities
Additional Requirements:
- Must be eligible to obtain and hold a US DoD Security Clearance in support of US Government contracts/subcontracts
Physical Demands:
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
- This position uses a computer terminal to access, input, and retrieve data.
- This position may be subject to interruptions that may cause a change in immediate priorities and/or work focus.
- While performing duties to this position, employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, and/or bend.
- May occasionally lift and/or move files or boxes up to 50 pounds.
- May be subjected to occasional irregular or extended work hours.
- May be required to sit for extended lengths of time.
- Must be able to work in an environment that may be subjected to occasional loud noises, hazardous materials and chemicals.
Salary Range - $90,000 - $130,000
