Sr Lead Application Engineer for Business Development – Hybrid

Location: Bridgewater, New Jersey, United States

Type: Full-Time, Hybrid

Salary Range: $120,000 – $150,000 base

About the Opportunity

Our client, a global leader in packaging solutions, is seeking a Sr Lead Application Engineer for Business Development to support the flexible packaging market. This role is a lab-based, client-facing technical position dedicated to enabling customers while driving innovation through adhesives and coatings technologies. You’ll serve as both a technical expert and an industry thought leader, bringing new technologies and solutions to market in collaboration with the Business Development team.

What You’ll Do

• Apply deep expertise in flexible packaging, from formulation to application of adhesives and coatings.
• Partner with Business Development and Product Development teams to address customer and market needs.
• Engage with external stakeholders (suppliers, customers, research institutes) to drive innovation initiatives.
• Develop, test, and scale breakthrough technologies from lab to pilot to market.
• Represent the company in industry associations, author white papers, and present externally.
• Manage and execute key innovation and application projects across flexible packaging technologies.
• Operate pilot-scale lamination and coating equipment to validate new ideas and support customer scale-up.
• Lead testing and market introductions of new products and technologies.

What You Bring

• 10+ years of flexible packaging industry experience in application engineering or product development.
• Proven expertise in application methods, product development, and technology scale-up.
• Willingness to travel 30–50% to customer and partner sites.
• Strong technical writing skills for documentation, manuals, and process guides.
• Skilled in data analysis, reporting, and presenting technical findings.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities with strong business acumen.
• Analytical thinker with a foundation in Lean, Six Sigma, or scientific methodologies.
