About the Role



A nationally respected multidisciplinary engineering consultancy with a strong presence across the UK is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Birmingham office.

Known for delivering innovative, sustainable building services solutions, this role offers the chance to lead complex mechanical designs on high-profile projects across healthcare, education, commercial, and infrastructure sectors.



Key Responsibilities



Lead mechanical design for a variety of projects including HVAC systems, heating, cooling, ventilation, and domestic water services

Prepare detailed calculations, specifications, reports, and design drawings

Manage project deliverables from concept through to construction and commissioning phases

Coordinate and collaborate with electrical, sustainability, and other engineering disciplines to deliver fully integrated MEP solutions

Mentor and develop junior engineers and technical staff

Engage directly with clients, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to provide expert advice and ensure design quality

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of UK building regulations, industry standards, and emerging technologies

Contribute to business development activities and help strengthen client relationships

Promote sustainability and low-carbon solutions within mechanical design projects



Candidate Requirements



Degree-qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (BEng, MEng or equivalent)

Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership (IMechE or CIBSE)

Minimum 6+ years’ experience in mechanical building services design within a consultancy environment

Strong knowledge of UK building regulations, CIBSE guides, and sustainability standards

Proven experience in HVAC, chilled water, heating, ventilation, and controls design

Proficient with mechanical design software such as Hevacomp, IES, AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools

Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills

Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and lead technical discussions
